Need help with a Journalism project

Hopefully the mods won't thwap me for this. I know I haven't been here in a bit, but that's because of... well... school but the easiest way to get this info out is via a board post.

I'm taking a feature writing class this semester for an elective (working on a COMM degree from the University of Maryland, University College). We get to pick the topic for our third article, and I wanted to do mine about Star Trek books. So I'm looking for authors and readers who'd like to be interviewed.

A few facts before you say "Yes, yes, please let me help you terpette!!"

1. I need to do interviews via phone or face-to-face. If you aren't in the Baltimore/DC area, it will have to be on the phone. I'm a poor part-time student with a mortgage so I can't travel to you. I will check with my professor to see if Skype voice chat is an acceptable substitute, if anyone really wants to help but won't give me a phone number. Don't hold your breath, though. She's tough.

2. I need to use complete legal names in the article, not just internet handles. Fortunately, the article won't go further than the class so you don't have to worry about me exposing your Treklit fetish. I really don't think the article is marketable to magazines since the Star Trek magazine already extensively features info on the new books.

If you'd like to help me, please let me know. I need to have a proposal done for the article by Oct 19, so I'd like to know I can get 9 folks to talk to me (including at least two authors) before I commit to a topic I can't change.

Oh, I don't have to tell anyone not to post phone numbers here, do I? PM me the number, or PM me and I'll give you my email address.

Thanks in advance, folks!
Karen :)

P.S. For the authors... I promise not to, like, post your phone numbers on my blog or anything. It'd be fairly easy to figure out where I live since the phone number's listed in my name, and I really don't want a bunch of pissed off writers on my front lawn...

If you don't have enough local volunteers and need to branch out to meet your quota, give me a shout via PM. :)

Good to see you around again, terpette. Nothing wrong with this thread and in fact I think it sounds like a cool project. The best of luck to you.

Thanks to everyone who has PM'ed or posted. (And I did get your IM, Lorraine, thanks!) I've got everyone's contact info copied down. The article proposal is due next Sunday (October 19). Once I've gotten the gotten the green light from the professor, I'll start setting up the interviews.

Y'all are awesome!! :techman: I was so worried I wouldn't get enough author responses and I'd have to go with my back-up idea.

If anyone else wants to jump on-board, please let me know. I do want to talk with avid readers as well as the writers.

Thanks again,
Karen
