Need help picking a team

So I've got a favorite team in almost every major sport...

Baseball: Kansas City Royals
Football: Kansas City Chiefs
Basketball: San Antonio Spurs

But what about soccer and hockey?

For soccer, I decided I was gonna start following the English Premier League since no one seems to give a shit about the MLS and after much research decided on Tottenham Hotspur as my favorite team. I figured they're good enough to do well and would be one of the least bandwagony choices.

Now, I still have no favorite hockey team. I've narrowed it down to the Blues (only team in Missouri), Stars (only team in Texas, except for the San Antonio Rampage, but they're minor league), Ducks (I remember the Mighty Ducks were quite popular when I was little), and Lightning (their logo is cool and for that reason I used them as a holding team for my created players in an NHL game I used to have on Game Boy Advance.)

So, this thread is for y'all to help me pick a hockey team. If you wish to debate or discuss my soccer team choice go ahead (Lord knows I could use some additional insight into figuring out just how the league system works... it's confusing as hell), but the primary reason for this thread is to help me pick a team for hockey.

I don't know what to tell you. I didn't pick my teams. They picked me!

I would recommend the St. Louis Blues.

Mostly because I used to live in St. Louis and it is a nice place. :techman:

As for soccer: Don't rag on the MLS too badly. I'd pick the New York Red Bulls, for reasons I would hope are apparent. ;)

Oh by the way, welcome back, K-Star! Where the flying fried trout have YOU been?

Go with the Blues. They're an up-and-coming team with a lot of young players, so you won't need to worry about them going into a rebuilding period any time soon.

Where do you hail from? Where is your family. Or a city you can relate to the most? These should help :)

On other forums and doing other internet things, that's where :P

My parents are from Kansas City (thus I'm a Royals and Chiefs fan from birth.) We've lived in San Antonio for the past 15 years (thus I'm a Spurs fan.) Kansas City and San Antonio don't have hockey teams (well, San Antonio has the Rampage, but they're minor league.) Currently I go to the University of Missouri, which is somewhere between Kansas City and St. Louis.

You don't necessarily need a favorite team in every sport. Do you like hockey or soccer? Do you have a reason to choose a "favorite?"

Your story about baseball, football, and baseball make a lot of sense. But, we you raised to be a hockey or soccer fan?

I happen to like hockey, but there isn't necessarily a team in the NHL that I hold allegiance too. Because I'm a UW alum, I'm loyal to Badger hockey and the WCHA, but I grew up in Wisconsin, beyond the occasional NorthStars game or Blackhawks game, pro hockey meant very little to me. I follow the Minnesota Wild with mild interest, but I'm more interested in the overall NHL.

As for soccer... league play is so meaningless to me. I don't have a way to follow the Premiere League, there is the same lack of local team issue with MLS (that and it's really got a long way to go to be a good league), and there isn't real easy access to the rest of the world leagues. I'm excited for the World Cup, but I don't have a favorite team in soccer.

Although I grew up listening to Bob Uecker broadcasting the Brewers, I'm not a fan of them like I am UW sports or the Packers. I have a greater interest in them than I do the Wild, but I'll also watch the Twins or the ChiSox just as contently.

As for the NBA, the only other "sport" more phony is the WWE. So fuck it.

K-Star, Kansas City does have a soccer team (the Wizards). Have you considered them?

(San Antonio doesn't have a MLS team)
