Need Help Identifying a Set Used Prop

Bill 123

I bought this several years ago from William Shatner's personal website. It was mislabeled from the Paramount auction back in 06' as a Telonian Crystal. I was told by their people that they had been assured it was used on The Next Generation but that they didn't know much more. There is a reference to a Talonian Crystal on DS9 in the episode Hippocratic Oath but looks much different. I've tried my best looking through TNG episodes but no luck finding it. If anyone has seen this somewhere in an episode please let me know. Thanks

The best person who might recognise it is Jörg Hillebrand. He's a Trek fan who's currently working to identify a slew of TNG props.
You can find him on Twitter.

I don't recall any place it was used in Trek, but that's a deck prism. They used to be used to light the belowdecks areas of ships without having to use candles or lanterns and risking a fire or smoking up the air. There'd be holes in the deck, connecting to the ceiling of the compartment underneath, and those prisms would be set into the holes pointy-side down to help spread out the sunlight, instead of just getting one bright spot of light coming straight through the hole. They're mass-produced as souvenirs nowadays. I've got one just like the one in the OP that I picked up in a Cracker Barrel gift shop on a roadtrip fifteen years ago or so, long before my sailing days (at the time, I assumed to was a scale replica and a real one would be the size of a chandelier, but, no, that's life-sized, there'd just be a bunch of them). They make them clear or in different colors, as well.

I just did a quick google hoping that knowing what it was would point me straight to where it had been used in Trek, but no luck. All I can tell you is that it's definitely a found object, not something specifically made for the show.

Whoops. I only read 80% of the thread before I posted the exact same thing you did!

And even the listing there says "glass prop believed to have been featured in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode “Hippocratic Oath”

But the Tallonian crystal seen in Hippocratic Oath doesn't look like this. It's a dodecahedron.

Someone got scammed!

That's the most weaselly bullshit I've ever heard. You totally got scammed.

Then again, it also sounds like you kind of let yourself get scammed by falling for that line of bunk. "Believed to have been" my ass!
