Need a Female Perspective for a VOY Fic

First off, moderator, I apologize if I have this in the wrong section, but seeing how it's fairly Voyager concerned I figured this was the appropriate forum.

This future fanfic I'm writing is a romantic comedy type one-shot tentatively titled: Romancing the Bajoran that takes place during and after the Voyager episode Drive. It involves my OC, Henry Kano, and my ficciverse's version of Tal Celes.

The context is, they've been dating ever since the Dark Realm fic's conclusion and have gotten fairly serious.

The story starts with Celes being promoted to Petty Officer 3rd Class just before the start of the episode. At around this juncture Henry has that moment where he knows he wants to ask Celes to marry him.

He begins the process of trading, bribing various folks and doing odd jobs (to include working in the power relay room for two shifts to get the last of three replicator rations he needs from Crewman Harren) to earn extra replicator rations to replicate a betrothal bracelet.

I just wonder if the time after Celes' promotion, and a point where the whole crew is in a high spirit is the best time for our protagonist to propose to his beloved (perhaps during the reception of Tom and B'Elanna) or is proposing to someone after a wedding bad taste? Perhaps the fact that he took the time to research Bajoran proposal customs (and actually near flawlessly recites a traditional Bajoran lover's ballad) might help his case?

I'm a female, and I think the proposal sounds sweet. I think Tom and B'Elanna's wedding is irrelevant, and it wouldn't be in bad taste at all to propose after that.

There's nothing wrong with the substance of the proposal, but the timing needs to be at least a day after Tom and B'Elanna's wedding. It's simply rude to horn in on one couple's special day to announce, "Hey, we're getting married, too!" and steal the bride's limelight.

Why not have this person propose after her first away mission with myself and two of the other crewmembers on The Delta Flyer?

Crewman Celes found that she was just as important to Voyager as the other crewmembers and this helped forge her relationships with the others onboard.

I think this would make a sensible and befitting period.

Just because they get engaged doesn't mean they have to announce it. It could happen in a quiet corner and be their happy secret for a few days.

I figure he'd announce it sometime later or it just gets found out by the ship's rumor mill. I can see Neelix announcing it on his daily show:

"And the Paris family isn't the only one to tie the knot. Another couple onboard USS Voyager has recently become engaged to be married. LTJG Henry Kano, from the Search and Rescue detachment is presently engaged to marry Petty Officer 3rd Class Tal Celes from Astrometrics..."

How does the Neelix announcing it bit sound? Too blase. Or perhaps a friend of either of theres spilled the raktajino to Neelix about it.

Why not have this person propose after her first away mission with myself and two of the other crewmembers on The Delta Flyer?

Both my fics are set after Celes' first away mission.

^^^ excellent observation! at least for humans. how do you think Bajorans would feel about that? I get the feel that they are of the school that joy shared is joy doubled. I don't think there'd be a Bajoran cultural objection.

I'd agree about that one. But bear in mind it's an individual Bajoran and as I've written her somewhat distanced from her culture because she grew up in the Federation.
