NBC Orders 5 New Dramas

Starbreaker

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
State of Affairs
State of Affairs centers on a key CIA attaché (played by Grey’s Anatomy alum Heigl) who counsels the president on high-stakes incidents around the world. She balances her intense political responsibilities with a complicated personal life. The cast also includes Adam Kaufman (Without a Trace), Sheila Vand (Cult), Cliff Chamberlain (The Mob Doctor), Tommy Savas (Hollywood Heights) and Leslie Odom, Jr. (Smash).

Could be a relative hit if paired with Law & Order: SVU

Allegiance
Allegiance revolves around the O’Connor family and their son, Alex , a decorated American war hero and CIA analyst whose parents and sister, unbeknownst to him, are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Once the parents are reluctantly pulled back in, the stakes rise as they are coerced into spying on their own son and turning him against his country.

Probably too reminiscent of The Americans to stand on its own. Maybe it will be good though.

Odyssey
Odyssey centers on three families whose lives are torn apart when a stranded female soldier (Pushing Daisies‘ Anna Friel, pictured), a disillusioned corporate attorney (Peter Facinelli, Nurse Jackie) and a disrespected political activist (Jake Robinson, The Carrie Diaries) are pulled into the same shocking international military conspiracy. The cast also includes Jim True-Frost, Treat Williams, Nate Mooney, Elena Kampouris, Daniella Pineda, Sadie Sink, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Omar Ghazaoui.

International conspiracy theories never go well. I expect this to be convoluted and over with in a handful of episodes.

Constantine
EPs | Daniel Cerone (Dexter), David S. Goyer (Batman Begins)
CAST | Matt Ryan, Lucy Griffiths (True Blood), Harold Perrineau (Lost)
Based on the characters in DC Comics’ stories about John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond.

Grimm seems to be doing pretty well on NBC, so I think this could be a great companion show.

The Mysteries of Laura
EPs | Jeff Rake (Cashmere Mafia), Greg Berlanti (Arrow), Aaron Kaplan, Melissa Kellner
DIRECTOR | McG
CAST | Debra Messing (Smash), Josh Lucas (The Firm), Laz Alonso (Breakout Kings)
Based on the popular Spanish series Los Misterios De Laura, it follows the life and relationships of a female homicide detective who can handle murderous criminals — but not her evil twins.

I could see this going either way. I'll probably at least watch the pilot seeing as how I'm a sucker for crime shows.

IMDB tells me that Debra's evil twins are her children.

However... Imagine a show where Debra was a slightly mental Homicide detective who believed that each of her breasts was a person who was talking to her about life in general... Of course would the boob jiggle like a puppet to denote where the speech is coming from or would they superimpose most of a face over each of her evil twins?

And if her mammillia are evil, then she really shouldn't trust them.

Negative; sounds like a doomed mashup of Commander in Chief and E-Ring... It could be a possible craptastic camp classic, though, and this is from someone who actually likes Heigl. :p

In theory if you are channel surfing, and see the most beautiful person in the world, you stop, and dwell on how pretty they are until the credits roll.

Which one will get canceled first and which one will only live because it will be on after The Voice?

Place your bets now!

^ As much as I'd love to see the original L&O return, I don't see how we can ever expect it to happen. Cancelled series rarely come back.

And there was a very real danger that even SVU wouldn't be renewed, because Dick Wolf got into a contract dispute - he wanted to make his Chicago series (Chicago Fire and Chicago PD) his main shows, because they're less expensive to produce.

I agree, but the return of 24 gives me hope that others can do it too.

I can't imagine that SVU costs any more "below the line" to make than Chicago Fire/PD. Which means that any price difference is likely in either Dick Wolf's paycheck, or the actors'. And, well, both of those have solutions.

Or perhaps filming in Chicago is less expensive than filming in NYC?

Constantine intrigues me a bit. But knowing it's NBC a genre show won't last long so I'm probably not going to bother.

Grimm sucked hard for the longest time.

But they kinda lucked into a dynamic that entertains me.

Not sure about the new girl (in Grimm.).

Anyone else try to punch a window every-time someone uses her "name"?
