NBA 2016-2017 Season

Well, another season starts this Tuesday. Hard to see any team in the league beating the Warriors this season. But we all know that superteams sometimes fail to win the in the Finals. However, considering that the Warriors were only one win away from repeating last season and have added one of the league's best players, what could go wrong? :D If they do get back to the Finals, I can't see them choking again.

Spurs will be interesting this season. They've added Pau Gasol after losing Timmy to retirement. Pau is still a good offensive center and has been an above average rebounder and a decent shot blocker, but his overall defense has never been very good. Without Tim, Spurs will be better offensively but worse on defense. Speaking of doing "without", OKC experienced the last of the fallout from that boneheaded trade of James Harden when they lost Durant. They will have a chance to make it to the conference finals, but no further.

As for the east, are the Raptors ready to move in front of the Cavs? They look like the only team with a remote chance to do that. If the Cavs do make it back to the Finals, I don;t think they'll be able to count on a massive choke again in order to win the championship.Celts will be better with Al Horford, but they're still a team of spear carriers with no real leader.

This season my team, the Lakers, will start a season without Kobe Bryant for the first time in 20 seasons. This not only a huge loss for us but for the entire NBA. Even in his last years, Kobe put butts in the seats all around the league, more so than any other player. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the further development of the Lakers young core with new coach, Luke Walton and a new offense.

I'm a Warriors fan, but I was really hoping Durant would go to a team like the Knicks. The one issue I have with the NBA is it's the league with the least amount of parity in it, where the star players go to "join" players and create these super teams. I can see positives in that as you want to be the team to knock off the super team, but it's making my enthusiasm for the season less so than it probably should be.

In terms of who I want to see challenge the Warriors and Cavs, I really don't know who is good but I want to see some surprise teams being good. I guess that means maybe the Timberwolves (CAT is a great player which is why I'm thinking about them) and maybe the Knicks even though a team like the Bucks with the Greek Freak guy could be fun. I'd like to see the Warriors be challenged. It could make for a more interesting season as a Warriors fan and just a fan of the NBA in general.

Good news is, we can't possibly be worse than last year!

The Bucks might make things interesting, as Parker looks like he's on the verge of taking a giant step forward.

Two things about being a superteam that are really bad; sky high expectations every game, and all the other teams get incredibly motivated to play you. This is especially bad early in the season before said superteam has a chance to gel.

Spurs rout Dubs in Oakland. I'm certainly not a Dub's jocker, but one of the biggest "who cares?" (with respect to win/loss) periods in sports is October in the NBA.

Bring on the playoffs.

On one hand my Celtics got the 1 seed, on the other hand they did it with the lowest record of any team to get the 1 seed in ten years and nobody gives them a chance because of the feeling Love and Irving were sandbagging and can just turn on the switch in the postseason. (May the draft balls fall in their favor.)

Everybody knows Cavs are favorites in the East but I think if the Cavs CAN'T turn it on and play every bit as good as they did last year, that'll be a damn close series.

Of course I'm rooting hard against the Warriors, I'd be happy to see Spurs or Cavs beat them. I was rooting for Warriors in the past because they earned the great teams they had the last two years but then adding one of the best players in the league to an already dominant team makes me root against them harder than I did the Heat.

And I know all the stat machines are saying Celtics is the most likely upset in the first round, but I'm skeptical of that. Those stats weigh the entire season equally, right? They don't take into account the Celtics started the season 13-12 and finished it 40-17.

I like the Warriors and am a fan but I would love to see two different teams in the finals. Have it be like Houston against Boston. Right now the league isn't all that enjoyable if it's the same two teams every year like the last three.

I don't see anyone stopping the Warriors from getting back to the Finals. In the west, it's the Dubs then everyone else. And once back in the Finals, the nightmare collapse last season should be motivation enough for them to get another ring. Blazers are fun to watch but look like they're in over their heads. They may be the Celtics of the west.

The interesting race is in the east. No guarantee Cavs make it back to the Finals, although I still count them as the favorites. But if it doesn't happen, it'll likely have to be the Raptors stepping up, finally.

I think so far, the only real upset has been the Jazz over the Clips. in their game 1. Although I always say, and still maintain, that the first game of a 7 game series is the least important, what a pathetic performance by Doc Rivers and the Clippers. They haven't lost the series yet, but talk about giving their fans reason to tune out early. Blake Griffin, one of the most overrated players in several years. Blame all those dunks in his first year when he used his off hand to enhance his leap. Doc may also be on the hot seat.

Looking forward to some great games.

Glad that the Celts seem to have been bailed out by an injury but if they play against the Wizards the way they have against the Bulls they'll get killed.

I am holding out hope they just have a longer playoff basketball learning curve and still make it to the Cavs, put up good a star-attracting show and go down swinging.

The Celts' series is reminding me a series the Lakers played against Chuck and the Suns years ago. Charles mentioned it after the Celts lost game 2. Suns were the No. 1 seed and Lakes were 8th. The young, brash, pre-Kobe/Shaq Lakers won games 1 and 2 in Phoenix. The Suns, undaunted, won games 2 and 3 in L.A. and went on to win the series in game 5 at home. The main difference was that was only a 5 game series. One of the other differences is that the Suns were a veteran group, while these Celts are young and pretty inexperienced as is their coach. But the injury to Rondo looms large for the Bulls. Celts in 7.

Better hope the Raps have grown up finally as they're the only ones likely to be able to stop the Cavs.

I wonder how much of an impact Isaiah Thomas's mourning had on the first two games. Not that this is an excuse, just possibly a factor. Great that Avery Bradley stepped up defensively. Looking forward to Wizards series, I will probably try to go to one of the Celtics' home games.

Still thinking that a loss to Cavs in the conference finals in 5 or 6 would be a great argument to potential free agents.

^ The Celts were a pretty inconsistent team at times, despite ending up with the #1 seed.

The Bulls even moreso. I'm surprised they weren't swept.

Statistically the home court advantage has gotten weaker and weaker for the last 40 years, but not for the Celtics and Wizards apparently. Home team is 9-0 between the two teams this season and last three games by crushing margins.

Sixers fans annual Lottery Party (hosted by the podcast "Rights to Ricky Sanchez") is going strong tonight. Among the highlights so far was an on-stage wedding proposal and raising a Sam Hinkie banner to the rafters. No idea the turnout, but it has to be easily 2-3,000 people. TrustTheProcess

That's the big question isn't it. Are you going to have Thomas and Fultz? He's clearly the best player in the draft, but your team feels like one that wants to be a piece away from contending, not swap one piece for another.

Although I think you have another Nets pick at some point?
