NASCAR has been Embarassing this Year.

This isn't the first race that has had tire issues the entire day, but it does make it the most notable race. That was absolutely bad to watch that I had to turn it off until the final 10 laps. 8 laps, caution, 10 laps, caution. This isn't racing, this is an exercise in futility. It's not just the tires that have been making this sport bad this season, even though it wasn't the first time. Just from Ky. Busch having an unreal season, to some boring racing with the Car of Tomorrow, Nascar needs to make some significant changes. I liked watching this sport at first a few years ago, but now I'm almost not caring anymore. The coverage for all the commercials ruined the Sanoma Race, Rain and embarrassment ruined the first Fontana race, and now Tires are ruining the brickyard race. At least Gordon, Earnhardt Jr. and Johnson are still in the hunt for the chase, but why bother anymore.

I missed this week's race. Have missed a number of them this year, though that is not unusual for me.

The tire issues should make the next race at Bristol interesting. The night race at Bristol ALWAYS has tire issues, and is usually about the only race that does.

Unfortunately they can't do a lot about that one as the tires are not the real issue, but the symptom. The tire issues are caused by excessive heat in the brake system melting the bead on the right front.

The longest stretch in today's race without pitting was, ready for this, 12 laps.

I stopped really watching NASCAR hardcore like I used to, this "car of tomorrow" crap, it doesn't feel like a race anymore at all.

Indeed. Hopefully the next races are better but that was just really bad. Feel sorry for those fans who sat at that track on Sunday. They need the refund.

This new car is just atrocious. Fortunately, they've delayed introducing it in the Nationwide Series until 2010 due to massive bitching from the owners, including the Cup owners. Hopefully, they'll eventually go to a hybrid of the old and new cars - the old design with most of the safety improvements from the CoT.

That race was horrible. I do understand that this is the first full ear of running the new COT cars with the splitters and such on them. They are clearly going to drive differently. i hope that all is fixed by next season.

As far as Busch, He isn't my favorite by any means but give the guy a brake. He isn't the only person in the history of Nascar to have a hot year. Names like Petty and Gordon come to mind, and Smoke in the chase in years past.

Busch may have a lead oing into the chase but its not set in stone that he weill hold the 2008 Nacsar Sprint Cup trophy. If we were still racing on the non chase format, He would win it hands down but there are atleast4 or 5 drivers who could knock him off...maybe even 12? you never know.

I am not a fan of the COTs...I liked how they were in the few years past and in the good old 80's and 90's where we had drivers like Earnhardt senior, Petty, Alison, Irvan...and so on.
I do think Toyota in general has had an advantage with the COT cars but its just driving the others to match them on power and performance and they are getting there. To say this was the most embarassing year may be true as far as tire...tire..tire problems but its not disapointing. It always gets better when the 12 chasers are set in stone....and the Smoke gets hot and Gordon gets in gear and June Bug burns the midnight oil and make his father proud.

Sundays race was a Snoze fest, I think the pacecar driver Brett Bodine led more laps that the tool who won the race.
Caution laps: 5-9, 15-17, 30-34, 48-53, 66-70, 83-86, 99-105, 107-112, 123-127, 139-141, 151-153.
between that asshole Kyle Busch winning eveytrhing and Sundays tire farce, this season sucks.

watch the Truck series...Busch doesn't race most of them, and the excitment is fairly good. Camping World east isn't bad, its like watching the sprint cup back in the late 90's

I kind of gave up on NASCAR when the point’s race changed. Now with the new car it really blows chunks. I've even become less interested in drag racing with all of their changes. It's all a bit disappointing.

Yeah, the Chase is really starting to hurt now, IMO. The drivers didn't want to race hard because they were afraid of getting hurt in the points, as Harvick and Kenseth were. There's got to be a better way to increase excitement at the end of the year. Perhaps they should move the Brickyard to be the finale? Assuming they could get the tire situation fixed, that would let them open and close the season at the two most prestigious tracks in the US.

ooo two of my favotites. Ziva David and X-men known as NIGHTCRAWLER!!!:techman:

yes the chase has its pros but also alot of cons

I'd be all for this.

As a Kyle Busch hater, this is turning into a horrible year. Just like the year his equally inept brother lucked into his own championship. (many NASCAR vendors admitted that they never sold less championship-related gear than the year Kurt won, but I think Kyle might out-do him) As for the COT, I like the car, and I think it will eventually be a great race car, but there still is much development to happen. Goodyear just announced that they are developing a new, wider tire for the COT. With all the downforce this car produces, this seems to be a logical development. I think the COT will work a lot better with this tire, but it won't be ready before 2010.
I really enjoyed the rain race in Montreal yesterday. I was thinking crashfest, but was surprised to see passing and real racing right away (certainly more racing than at Indy!). Glad NASCAR didn't chicken out this time. I was entertained.

I've found NASCAR boring this year and last.

I don't bother to watch the race untill the very end, you know the Green, White, Checkered race.

Cookie cutter cars, scripted races, NASCAR leadership has screwed up completely.

I wouldn't call the races Scripted, but when you have incidences where Kyle Busch pretty much just wrecks Dale Jr. it's hard not to get suspicious. I know it was racing, but that was such a bad moment this season, and then to see him win all these races (he didn't win that one) is just tiring.
