Nacelle Star Trek action figures

Mine are still out for delivery.

Sulu, Tuvix, Preston and Valkris are the only figures I didn’t order from Wave 1. I’m fully prepared to order Preston and Valkris today if I like what I see when mine get here.

I just ordered Mirror Archer from Wave 1, because I like that episode, plus Boimer inexplicably had one on his tchotchkes shelf, which something he shouldn't have known existed in universe - from Wave 2 it was just BEM. I'll probably get the entirety of Wave 3 (except the lame 2-pack).

So far I have seen photos of Sulu, Jellico, Weyoun, Valkris, and Mirror Archer. The last two are arguably the "worst" of that bunch, in terms of the likenesses being a bit "soft", and even those look pretty good. If this is where they're starting, it bodes well for future waves.

They all look pretty good to me. Mirror Archer is the weakest of the bunch, especially next to the DST Archer. But I still think it’s good.

Can’t get over the swappable dead head for Garrett. Such a morbidly cool accessory.

**edit to add**

Now that I have them out of the boxes. The Archer face sculpt is actually pretty good. It’s still not as good as DST but it’s a lot better than those pictures the CEO posted.

Garrett does have a bit of a giraffe neck though. No matter which head is on.

Speaking of the DST. The scale of these is right there with them. They are just a hair smaller but it’s hardly noticeable.

I wonder if they have slightly better human proportions, with the exception of Spock, I always found the DST figures to be just a bit too lanky for the characters they were portraying.

I think it varies from figure to figure with them. Their Picard for example is a bit more…solid than I would have thought.

They were also really obvious about reusing bodies. Especially for the females.

Yeah, I’ve played around with mine out of package. They are pretty good. It’s a bit weird how soft the hands are. And swapping heads can kind of be an adventure. Garrett’s swapped out pretty easy, Weyouns was tricky. And there is no click to indicate it is complete locked into place, so when I put the stern face on it fell off a few times before I got it to stick.

I also dug out some of the AA/DST that I don’t have out on display and I am just gonna stop comparing to Nacelle. I’ve had them for years and didn’t realize they were out of scale with each other let alone out of scale with Nacelle. Archer and Picard (who were boxed up) tower over Kirk and Sisko (who I have on a shelf) and Picard makes the Nacelle Jellico look like a wee little guy.

I think the Maroon uniforms look pretty bad without the shirt underneath, which doesn't help with the long neck look either. I guess they didn't have the right sizes to use on TNG and they were too expensive to make more of, or something.

It could also be an attempt to create an intermediate look on a budget. They eschewed the belts as well, after all.

Wasn't there a rescale between the Art Asylum figures and the DST ones? I seem to recall the Nemesis Picard and Data were a lot larger than the later TNG figures that DST released.

I hated the half-ass TOS movie uniform look. I think they would have been better off using the TNG season 1 jumpsuits gently modified in some fashion, maybe even wearing the TOS movie pants over them to suggest an intermediate uniform of some kind..

There may have been. It would make sense as to why Archer is a larger figure than the other captains (if only I could find the box where I have the rest of the Enterprise figures). But even among the DST figures, the sizes are inconsistent beyond what you’d expect, Worf being larger than Geordi for example. So basically the lines are consistently inconsistent. lol.

In any case, the more I pose them and display them, the more I like the Nacelle figures. I did go ahead and order Preston and Valkris.

That's probably it, although the whole idea that there would need to be an intermediate look is pretty silly. It seems like they tried to replicate the shift from season 1 to season 3 TNG uniforms, only in reverse, for the maroons, but it just looks half-assed (because it was).

Does the red on the Garrett and Sulu figures look a bit brown/orange, or am I just imagining it?

I've received my shipment of Wave 1, and have started unboxing. Honestly, I'm blown away. The photos online really don't do these figures justice.

Sulu is a phenomenal likeness of Takei, especially at this scale. The proportions and details of the uniform are captured very nicely, and the articulation is great.

I think the uniform colour is fine. Those uniforms always looked different depending on lighting, but they often appeared more of a rust red, which is what Nacelle have gone for. I'm fine with it. The gimmick with the flap actually works really well, and I hope future Monster Maroon figures have that too.

Just look at this guy...

Haven't unboxed all my wave 1 figures yet as I've been too engrossed by my TOMY TMP Enterprise that came in the same day! Talk about Christmas in March!! I will say with certainty that figures will not be staying "Mint-in-the-box"!

I decided to revisit my long-dormant Tumblr blog to review the Nacelle figures and also for image hosting.

Nacelle Wave 1 - Mirror Jonathan Archer Review!

I started with Archer because I've got the old Art Asylum version for comparison pics! Maybe it's unfair to show them side-by-side because AA's Archer is freakishly, eerily good, from a 3D scan of Scott Bakula.

The DST TOS and TNG figures will be a much fairer baseline, but I only have a few of their Wave 1 TOS figures.

TLDR; it's a really nice figure, with a couple of minor reservations. The head sculpt is the weakest in this wave, and Nacelle should really consider packing these figures with bases.
