MYTHBUSTERS: THE SEARCH coming in January

Something about tail draggers. You have to gun the throttle--and push the stick forward a bit to pop the tail lose--and have it level with the main wing. Then you pull back.

That's why tricycle gear is more the standard on everything these days.

In the earlier take--it sounded like the simulator was shouting "don't think."

I am told it is really "don't sink."

In terms of scaling a building--I think it makes less sense to climb than to drive:

I don't know how well that scales up though.

A constant fan beats suction--though perhaps the two can be combined.

Firefighters could use a wall scaling vehicle.

That's interesting... kind of like a drone with wheels.

Speaking of which, I noticed that in the wall-climbing challenge, they were using a camera drone that had some kind of wooden arm extension in contact with the wall. I guess they put that there to keep the drone lined up with the wall and the climbers and constrain it to moving up and down, I guess so it'd be easier to control. It's a clever idea, though a bit more obtrusive than you generally like a camera to be. I wouldn't have minded a side segment talking about how they rigged that camera drone, though.
 
good show love the wall climbing ! the plane was good but not as fun just Happy Hackett is gone. Don't let the door hit you on the way out ! happy he don't get any hurt or kill !
 
Wow, I'm really surprised they sent Allen home. I thought he was a shoo-in to be a Mythbuster, sort of a cross between Adam and Grant. He had the same kind of exuberance and sense of humor as Adam, and I don't think any of the others are nearly as charismatic. Although I do think his sense of whimsy worked against the myth this week, since he didn't consider the problems with blowing feathers from a moving car with air turbulence around it. But I don't know if it's fair to hold that against him, since presumably a proper myth test would involve more experimentation and research than a 3-day competition build.

So it looks like next week is the finale, meaning they're probably ending up with three hosts. Until the end of this episode, I would've assumed the final three would be Brian, Tamara, and Allen. Now I'm thinking maybe Brian, Tamara, and Jon.
 
I didn't think the feather thing would work.

You pop that trunk up--and you have a zone of low pressure right behind the vehicle that kept all that crap in place.

It is why you see some trailers have fixtures not unlike what the shuttle had over its SSME's during transport:

Well. I have to say, if I had to pick two I think I would have chosen the two runners-up, not the actual winners.​
 
Well, the final episode aired tonight. I thought it was the best one experiment-wise, because getting rid of the contrived competition format and just having a single team working on the myth made it feel more like a proper Mythbusters case, with more focus on the methodology and testing. There was more room to show the procedure because there was only one procedure, not two. And the final four did all do a good job with the science and testing and building.

Although it occurs to me that there's one aspect of Mythbusting that the contestants were never really tested on -- judging Busted/Plausible/Confirmed for themselves. The host did that every time. Of course, I assume that on the original show, the producers and writers had a hand in the decisions that were presented as being made exclusively by the hosts, but I think the hosts were at least partly making their own judgments, and that's something none of the contestants got to practice. Just one more reason to doubt that a "reality"-show competition was the right way to pick new hosts.

I do think all four did a good job, though, and that any of them would've been equally qualified. It's too bad they only picked two. As for the winners, Brian was the obvious choice from day one, because he came off as a more easygoing Jamie and seemed like one of the most competent and effective ones right off the bat. But the other choice I thought was obvious was Martin, who projected an equivalent competence and was also a safe, whitebread candidate. I'm a bit surprised that Jon was the second winner. Not disappointed, though, since Jon is less bland than Martin, and I'm glad it won't just be two white guys as hosts again.

Now the question is, what's next? As I've said before, "reality" shows haven't had a great track record at following through on their promises. Will there actually be a new, proper season of Mythbusters hosted by these two? If so, hopefully they'll decide they need a "Build Team" of their own and bring in some folks like Tamara and Allen as auxiliaries. After all, if they do move past the obnoxious "winners and losers" format and just do the show the way it should be done, it'd make sense to get support from people who've proven themselves capable.
