mySQL error: What is it?

So I go to one of my regular websites and I get this:

mySQL error: Host 'server.(name of site).com' is blocked because of many connection errors. Unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts'
mySQL error code:
Date: Wednesday 14th of March 2012 12:41:26 AM

Several of those "down or up" checkers indicate the site is online. What’s the problem? Is there anything I can do to fix it at my end?

It looks like there is an issue with the database. Admin neeeded!

Even though it says mysql it's really theirsql that has the problem.

If you get the following error, it means that mysqld has received many connect requests from the host 'host_name' that have been interrupted in the middle:

Host 'host_name' is blocked because of many connection errors.

How do I know they’re aware of the problem?

I expect a good admin would set up an alert for this sort of thing. If the real cause was a denial of service attack or some such, scripting an automatic fix would probably be a bad idea.

How do I know they’re aware of the problem?

I get emails whenever MySQL encounters unusual behavior on my sites. If you aren't sure that they know, shoot their admin(s) an email.
