My Uni Project

Johnny

Commander
Red Shirt
Ok, so I've been working on this for 2 1/2 years, all the designs are on paper, I know how much it's gonna cost. From that my lecturers have said yes to it, no complaints, not many issues other than health and safety naturally, I'm 5 weeks from starting to put it all together, and I produce these renders to give myself and others an idea of what it's going to look like. I send it to my lecturer who must have shown it to someone, and all of a sudden the next day I'm in a 'We have some concerns about your project...' kind of meeting, with the head of film department, head of health and safety, and the campus manager.
So, keeping in mind that they can still pull the plug...here's some renders of what I'm building. Not finished yet, but you get the jist. C&C's welcome!

wait, you want to try and build a full scale bridge set in 5 weeks, when you have a virtual set of that quality?

I really think you're time would be better spent texturing it and setting up a green screen.

Actually, we're constructing most the parts in 4 weeks, and it's got to be assembled in 48hours! :p

Hehe! Yeah don't even remind me how many times I've thought of going back to green screen. But we don't have any form of tracking camera movements on our green screen(which happens to be grey :wtf:) because of the type of curtain it is, so doing anything more complicated than a static shot wouldn't be feasible.

I've had a long time to plan this out, got the money to do it, getting actors slowly, making uniforms, space 3d is moving nicely along and script is finished. I'd feel like a drop out if I changed now. :(
And my texturing isn't up to scratch! ;)

if you've got the money to build that set, you surely can get a new green screen set up? with track markers and everything.

if you really have the resources to build it then all power to you, but it seems quite unrealistic for a student film.

I know it sounds a bit far fetched, but there's a team of us working on it. I find it easier to make the sets I need than to build them in 3D. Once your standing in the middle of a set you get actual interactions with a set rather than some pretending things are there. It allows for complete mobility with the cameras and angles, no restrictions and such like.
Got actors coming from London, Cardiff, Birmingham and Stafford. And I'd give £100 to stand on a bridge, but to be able to write, have acted out and have on record, a piece of work surrounding it...gives me a buzz!

It's more of a 'cus we can' and 'while we can' project!

Staffs Uni, Stafford Campus. Could always do with crew if you know how to hold a boom mic or use a power drill..! But I'd have to let you know, the construction month is quite fluid. Where are you based? We're shooting for five days.

I have experience with a boom mic and im at Coventry Uni
I'm away for two weeks in April though...

Not shooting until June anyway. PM me your email and I'll drop you a line when I start getting things together.
J.
