Last night I was on Twitter and Mike Johnson, IDW writer, mentioned that he was listening to the Thor Ragnarok soundtrack and wondered how his comic would turn out under the influence of the music. One of the artists, Megan Levens, mentioned that now she wanted to draw The Enterprise surrounded by “Kirby crackles”*. Well, to me that seems a lot like the effect of the spore drive from Discovery so I made this! It was the first time I tried to imitate that style, and I have to admit I am pretty happy with the result! * The sort of electric/spacey look Jack Kirby comic book artist Jack Kirby was famous for. There is a lot of Kirby design influence in the new Thor movie. https://geekfilter-blog.tumblr.com/...y-inspired-discovery-comic-page-so-last-night
Wow! That looks really authentic. Great job! - I've been wondering if anyone else had noticed, as I haven't seen mention of it anywhere (admittedly, I don't spend a great deal of time in the Discovery thread section...).
That’s amazing work @GeekFilter ! Kirby’s style goes well with the Discovery’s spore drive jump effect. Heck, The King’s style goes well with everything!
Very nice! Love the “Kirby Krackles” effect and you integrated it very well. Reminds me of this panel from the origin story of the Silver Surfer, which has always been one of my favorites:
"Kirby Krackles" as a term always makes me smile. The name makes me think of a breakfast cereal for superheroes.
Yeah, I hadn't either so I thought if there was a 1970s comic it totally would have called it out Just like SHIELD!
Aww thank you! I felt like I channeled someone else. When I was done with it I was like "Even I want a print of this!"
I've heard that term, but I always call them "Kirby Dots". Nice work GeekFilter! I always like a Kirby / Trek mashup.
