My ideas on a new Star Trek TV series

I believe TNG had the best formula for a series. It just needs to be improved upon.

I just finished watching "The Pegasus" (s7.e264) - the episode where they were trying to recover the technology that provided a cloak and would allow ships to phase and go through matter. The end of the episode Picard consoles Riker and said you made a mistake 12 years ago. yadda yadda.

2 points out of that
a) The technology is cool let us use it.
b) All Star Trek series had a lack of backbone. :p

Point B is the only thing that bothers me about any Star Trek series (a little less from TNG) is the fact that they really don't have backbones. They negotiate to death. They attack after half their ship has been destroyed (extreme's but you get my point).

We need to see some grit. We want to see victories and defeats.

 Recommendations on future Star Trek series:

A new enterprise. Throw on 500 years into the future. How does the universe look for earth, the federation, other species in the alpha quadrant and beyond. better technology. and Data would have made several android children at that point to continue on in the newer Enterprise possibly one of the other rug rats would be a captain on another ship.

-Add more GRIT:evil:. I would recommend the entire first season would be dedicated to some type of war (and cool weapons, smart ship tactics, some ship battles - its 2011 lets get some solid CGI). First episode will need to explain how we got there. In that is the dissolution of the treaty and we would have cloaked ships that could pass through matter (i.e Pegasus). Federation would have to grow a pair. Easily resolved with a hot shot new Captain. Takes a lot of risks. Isn't scared of a battle. decorated by the federation. smart in battle.

-Continue in the style of TNG. Plan your character developments well. Look for quality actors. Cover the theme's which people can/may encounter in normal day to day life. TNG had the human touch with a sci fi look.

-Include a few time travelling episodes

-Include an encounter with a supreme being

-New species discoveries

-Throw in another villain or two

-Cook for 20 mins

Why does there have to be a war? Star Trek is best when used as a device to explore contemporary issues in the human condition. This is Star TREK not Star WARS.

True, but not everybody in space is friendly. War, or at least conflict with others, is natural, right? It's hardly as if all Trek series saw the Federation at peace, did they?

Good point. There doesn't have to be war.

I think I might change my opinion to a Klingon future TV series. That would cover the formalities :P

If by TOS you mean Battlestar Galactica - I never got into the actors on that series. Just felt like actors on a stage.

In terms of my contradictory statement - switch the words TNG with Gene Roddenberry.

More time travel? Another supreme being? I don't know about anyone else, but I've had enough of both.

-New species discoveries
Yes to this, as long as they are new species, and not just humans with bumpy noses.

TOS=The Original Series. Kirk, Spock, McCoy.

Sounds like the OP hasn't watched either the original 'Star Trek', or 'Deep Space Nine'... ;)

Still mutually contradictory. :D

The only Star Trek series that devoted any real effort to character development was DS9. Roddenberry had nothing to do with that.

If what you want is TOS, but with character development, great! We haven't seen that yet, and it would be fun.

Oh ok, you're new here. TOS is how we refer to the original Star Trek series. With Kirk, Spock, those guys. It's just like TNG, except not wussified. You should check it out sometime!

I'm not saying that war isn't an contemporary issue, of course it is. I'm saying though that it doesn't need to be a focal point of a plot in a new series. In just about every single fan proposal in this forum, there has something to do with war. Conflict doesn't necessarily equate war.
