My idea for the future of Star Trek

Literature and media are often steeped in allegory, so why not take the next Star Trek series to the next allegorical level? I have mentioned on this here board before how Star Trek should become more of an ‘international series’ rather than an American centric one, With the advancements in streaming services bridging borders and expanding the potential for international sponsorship and advertisement, it is time to transform Star Trek into a truly global phenomenon, resonating with a worldwide viewership rather than being limited to an American centric narrative. Just because you include multi ethnic *American* actors in a series, it does not make it a diverse multinational series, we live in a world much larger than America and its politics with cultures which transcend America. This kind of potential storytelling, which reflects the global nature of our society would appeal to a broader audience. We could see how the humans get along and work together as they encounter… ‘aliens.’ :D

Let me expand upon this concept with a narrative. The new USS Enterprise could represent ‘the world’, a whole community of humanity exploring and defending their shared principles, albeit with its distinct and unique quirks and niches being represented by its crew who are living together in harmony aboard the ship. The bridge crew could be led by Seven of Nine, Captain of the USS Enterprise. However, I think that the G is a tiny bit too small with a bridge crew which is not *quite* diverse enough?

While the franchise has predominantly been centered around American characters and institutions, I think that Star Trek should have a more international basis and explore the idea of Starfleet Academy’s in other countries for example, not just the American San Francisco chain. How much of a safe bet would a Starfleet Academy series be set in San Francisco, for example? Why can it not be set at the Nairobi Academy branch? They will probably set the new Academy series on Mars instead to play it safe?

increasing the global perspective of Star Trek would allow for narratives on world wide inclusivity and cohesion and help viewers from various cultures connect with the characters on a deeper level even if they are not of American or of wider western persuasion.
