My idea for a new series.

Captain Banmen

Ensign
Newbie
I always envisioned a series called Star Trek: Unity. It would be the next flash forward into the Star Trek Universe. The Milky Way galaxy is on the verge of complete galactic unity, well the major powers anyway, and the new ships travel to the other galaxies and dimensions as transwarp has been perfected.

The Unity is the name of the ship and it is the flagship of a new era of exploration and discovery. Unity is larger then any Federation ship we have seen in the past and carries ambassadors from the various worlds of the Galactic Federation.

Although I liked the new Star Trek movie it seems to be a step back in the Universe of Star Trek.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Furthermore, what kind of tech can we envision for this time era which I believe would have to be fairly close to the new millennium?

There would be a complete galactic transport network where once could transport nearly instantly from Earth to the farthest reaches of the Delta Quadrant. It has been said that this would get rid of the need for ships but I think not.

What would this premise offer (stories, characters) that the Abrams-verse couldn't? What's so interesting about the next galaxy over that couldn't be imagined in the plain old Milky Way?

I'd re-organize things slightly to stay within a recognized time period. But I like your idea. The U.S.S. Rwanda, NCC 25953 a Legacy-Class or Century-Class starship is deployed toward The Great Barrier with a Version II of the U.S.S. Voyager's patchquilted Quantum Slipstream drive. Its the third of Starfleet's newest three year missions to leave charted space. But, as usual, Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans.

Elsewhere, fierce debates ensue among The Q & The Organians about The Federation and its Alpha Quadrant Alliance partners. The 'Encounter At Farpoint' "judges" are still hearing evidence but haven't ruled....yet.

"Star Trek: The Next Generation"
"Unity"
