My blood pressure still hasn't come down...

Three weeks after taking the Bar, the best my bp has been (consistently) is 120/80. While that's not bad, that being on diovan and bystolic (one to lower bp, one to lower heart rate).

I was really hoping to get off of them. Instead, the doctor is sending me to a cardiologist for an echocardiogram since my bp hasn't dropped further and I still get occasional chest pain. While my cholesterol is a total of 154, he's worried about my family history--Dad's was 147 combined, but he had blockage in 5 places (but that's not what killed him).

So off for the echocardiogram on 8/25, then the GP on 8/27, then meet with cardiologist on 8/31. I'm going to assume everything's okay until told otherwise.

If you have high blood pressure issues perhaps going into law = not the best choice?

I used to work in law and with all the deadlines there is almost a constant stream of stuff that occurs that can send blood pressure through the roof.

My friend had minor chest pain for about a week. We went for our weekly blood pressure check. His had jumped about 40 points from the week before, so he call the Doctor. The Doctor told him to call his wife, not to drive, and to meet him at the ER immediately. He was admitted, one of those observation over night stays. Several hours later he had a massive coronary, which ultimately lead to emergency bypass surgery (a triple) 72 hours later.

Heart disease is rampant in my family. My dad had two bypasses. My brother had a bypass in his 30's. I had a heart attack at 34. Stay on top of this. Learn some relaxation techniques to combat stress. Stay on whatever meds they tell you. With proper treatment and care you can bring it down. Good luck:bolian:.

I'd have to somewhat agree, but practicing law is not the only thing you can do with a law degree.

But you do need to manage your stress.

Yeah. Feeling stress can be learned, and can be hard to unlearn. Meditation, yoga, massage, and even acupuncture, can help. You should make feeling centered a central part of your lifestyle. ;)

Your blood pressure doesn't sound too bad..the bottom number is a little high..but otherwise ok. I hope your chest pains go away. This isn't something to be taken lightly! My Mom had open heart surgery in November of 2007(she had six blockages!) and still doesn't feel up to snuff. She's also lately been having chest pains which kinda worries me. I just hope that things level out for her and that things will subside. I hope things go well for you @ your Doc's appointments this week and next week.
