I actually found this list really hard to do.
I was underwhelmed by the new music. The opening scenes are scored perfectly, beautifully but after the main (derivative) theme is introduced it doesn't go away. Ever.
I was surprised cuz Giacchino's work on LOST is amazing.
1. The Motion Picture (Unmatched, truly the best)
2. The Search for Spock (Spock's theme can't bebeaten. a better orcheastrated version of:...)
3. Wrath of Khan (The definative Trek score)
4. Generations (As underrated as the Film, great calm, different to the usual wham bam... The Nexus track is just beautiful)
5. Nemesis (another underrated one. Listen the music when Data dies and don't tell me its not great. Loved the eery synth and a lot of its style visually and musically is evident in Star Trek)
6. Final Frontier (Nice evolution on themes, introduction of the second theme)
7. First Contact (The perfect TNG actioner score, loved the Borg bits)
8. Undiscovered Country (Different but unmoving, loved the opening but the crew's motif is lack-lustre. They should have got Horner or Goldsmith to do TOS last.)
9.Star Trek (Derivative and unoriginal. Like I said the opening was amazing but later its just the same theme, slower, faster, with a choir, but the same theme over and over. The theme itself sounds like something Horner would throw away. The Vulcan motif sounds like it came straight from Elfman's perfect Hulk score. Also I felt it was too ...samba sometimes.
10.Insurrection (Bland, like the film. Nice little moments here and there but not enough)
11. Voyage Home (Rosenthal got the mood all wrong. Flat and awful)
