Music died 50 years ago today....

Bloodwhiner

Today is the 50th anniversary of the Clear Lake, Iowa plane crash that killed pioneer rockers Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and JP "Big Bopper" Richardson.

I can't help but think what the two young artists would have contributed to music history if they had lived.

well holly definatly contributed a lot ..... he was a major influence on the beatles. he even influenced the name of their band . his band was the "crickets"!;)

But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.

:(

And the three men I admire most
The father, son and the holy ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day ... the music ... died.

Then you need to listen to any one of a number of parodies of it, such as "The Saga Begins".

Or find a copy of Richie Valens' "La Bamba" or Holly's "Everyday". It's hard to feel down after listening to either of those.

Quoted for truth, and for omitting "Chantilly Lace". ;)

They made great music, the three of them. Thanks. :bolian:

Without Buddy Holly we would not have had bands as diverses as The Beatles, Sex Pistols, The Libertines and The Arctic Monkeys. He was a revolutionary.
God rest his soul
