"Museum" comedy beats "Terminator" at box office (Reuters)

Some people need this movie to fail, for whatever reason. It's gotten to the point in the Trek XI forum where you have posters pointing to negative reviews as proof they're right while attacking positive reviews because there's no way they can be right.

It reminds me of the Serenity box office threads, honestly.

I mean, clearly Star Trek is doing much better numbers than Serenity did, but the feel of the threads is similar in terms of defensiveness and sniping....

The difference is, sadly, that Serenity was a failure and Star Trek isn't.

You know what some of the threads about Trek XI are reading like ? The US Election 2008 TNZ subforum last year.

Thread after thread after thread from the same few posters desperately trying to prove that Obama's a Muslim, Obama isn't American, Obama's a Communist, Obama would sell American children's organs to zoos for meat, Obama's this, Obama's that.

Every day they'd post some article from www.conservativefailblog.com trying to "prove" they were right. They're probably still convinced that McCain really won and Congress is keeping the real results secret.

And when some reputable source shows that Star Trek made a healthy profit to go along with the strong reviews from mainstream critics and from Star Trek fans alike, they'll still sit there claiming that the whole business was a failure and that they'll believe Star Trek was a success when America puts a man on the moon.

Museum 2 was a terrible, terrible movie. It's easily one of the worst movies in the last couple decades. Terminator 4 was an embarrassment to the franchise, but it never reached Museum 2's level of pure badness.

That's because the scripts was not that new. It's recycled to mixing all together to create second museum film, according to abc news this morning. But that doesn't surprise me that Museum 2 was topping them in first opening of the weekend. If you're telling me that it's one of the worst movie in the decades, then telling me why is that movie top number one in the first place?

What are the films for 2011?
The current summer 2011 schedule:

May 6 - Spider-Man 4

May 20 - Thor

June 3 - Kung Fu Panda 2

June 17 - Green Lantern

June 24 - Cars 2

July 1 - Transformers 3

July 15 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II

July 22 - The First Avenger: Captain America

Michael Bay wants to push TF 3 back to summer 2012, though, and it'll be entirely unsurprising if that does indeed happen.

I'm all for it. But Micheal Bay is talking of TF 4 & 5 and beyond of it, but is it possible that it could happening? Just out of my thoughts to expressing this from what is he talking about, but hell, if that happening, I'm all for it.

It's amazing that besides Thor and Green Lantern, all those summer 2011 movies are sequels.

Well, it is still two years away so there could be other movies in the pipeline...I think this was just a list of "franchise" movies.

Has nobody even considered that people could be turned off by Christian Bale's tirade earlier this year? This kind of thing has hurt other celebrities before.

I found it more funny than offensie. I can't help but laugh when I think of Bruce Wayne using Bale's real accent.:rommie:

Because it's a family film on Memorial Day weekend...and it's a sequel to a family film that a lot of people saw, so, it's got a lot going for it this weekend.

I don't think I found it offensive but it ires me that celebrities think they can act like that. I mean, come on, does anyone in the real world ever treat somebody as harshly as that?

With respect to the box office, another glaringly obvious reason for this movie's lower than expected performance stems from the lack of Arnold. Terminator was never that popular outside of fan circles, except as an Arnold movie.

Yet a number of high profile individuals - Ron Howard for instance - defended him. He lost his temper, it happens on movie sets all the time.

He had a tough day, he lost his temper, he apologised. The only reason it even got out is because he threatened to quit the movie in the heat of the moment and Warner Bros panicked and sent the tape to their insurance company.

Yes, but losing your temper is one thing. In a professional setting (and anywhere outside of a drunken barroom for that matter) it should last for a single phrase or two and then you calm yourself down and apologize for it and move on.

Bale just goes on and on and on...it is freaky in the sense that "who the hell does that outside of a mental institution?" kind of way.

In any other setting, the guy would have been dismissed from his job.

With respect of Box office, I can understand why it's family film, but he said himself that it's worst movie ever in the decades. Also according to abc news this morning, that this might be last museum movie, but I wouldn't bet on that, because we could see another museum movie in few years away from now. Hell, I'm not complaining.

As I said Star Trek is performing much better than Serenity overall, and somewhat better relative to expectations as well.

I'd call Serenity a disappointment rather than a failure, though. It's not like the studio lost any money on it in the long run.

People have emotions. People snap. They go off and rant.

Bale had a bad day. That tape is a few minutes out of a months long shoot that involves 12-20 hour days with little to no "days off."

He flipped out. Shit happens. We all have bad days, I suspect you've gone of on rants before when under stress. You were just fortuante enough to have not been a)a celebrity or b)had someone record it and put it on the internet.

Well, that's just it. I don't know any adult person who has ever had a "rant" like that in a professional setting and I would fire anybody who worked for me on the spot if they did. Can you imagine walking up to a police officer asking for directions and have him spew words like that to you? How about McDonald's? Barnes and Noble?

The bottom line is that many celebrities simply act like spoiled teenagers.
