Murder? or not (story help)

A legal question for us TREK fans....

What if someone were to trap their youngerself in the future, and then came back into the past and either altered the time line so that the future they came from no longer existed, or created a future that is no longer the same as they left, could they be charged with murder, or manslaughter, since in either case, they knowing either wiped the younger self out of existance, or at best, trapped them in a timeline that is no longer going to happen.

whew...

What do you think?

well if it involves one doing it to oneself would'nt that be committing temporal suicide, therefore there could be no legal action taken.

If it however involves the people that have ceased to exist because of the travellers actions maybe he could be charged with temporal homicide in that perhaps?

yes, I agree. I wonder if TEMPORAL INVESTIGATIONS can actually arrest folks for that.

If they can, that means that Archer, Kirk, Picard, Sisko and Janeway would all be under arrest. I think they all at one time or another changed a timeline to erase it. Of course, the real question is can you actually ever erase a timeline or does it carry on in its own quantum reality?

I could see an older version of a character tempted to interact face to face, with their younger self but wouldn't there be a Temporal Prime Directive regulation prohibiting such a behavior, considering every generic science fiction "End Of The Universe" rule against it?

But, I could see someone leaving a fingerprint/D.N.A.-locked P.A.D.D. where you know your younger self will find it, with a specifically detailed "letter" to your younger self to avoid certain problem-spots that are to arise further down the road. But you'd have to step quickly to stay under the radar of the Dept. of Temporal Investigations.

Then, how would YOU, (the older version,) deal with getting back to your specific place in future-history & the (altered) "Butterfly Effect" your actions will have on your life?
