MU BORG...

If in the MU there is a dupilcate entity of all the species in the RU, I was wondering what would the BORG be like in the MU. I can't imagine what they would be doing, if not assilimating. How would they spend their time, doing good deeds

the Borg appear in one of the MU novels "The Worst of Both Worlds", they're pretty much like regular Borg, except:

they have a King and fly around in diamond ships

Oh dear. That's pretty lame. That's fanfic lame. :vulcan:
You're just jealous cause you wouldn't be in charge queeny. But your right, that does seem fan-fic ish... And I don't believe I've heard of that novel, and I think I've read the majority of the MU ones.

As for what the borg would be like... hmm... who knows? Maybe they're still a cybernetic race, just haven't given their minds up to the collective. In which case we might get a glimpse of the culture of the original borg.

Hey! Maybe thats the borg V'Ger ran across, Decker did say it left the universe IIRC.

Really? I wouldn't mind reading it.

Oh! And a question thats been running through my head for a couple days now. Any relation to The Borg King on Fubar.com?

I've not actually written it, it's just in my head. :)

It's actually a whole fanfic background and Borg history I've got in my mind. Maybe someday I'll write it and post it here.

As for Fubar.com, I've never actually heard of it. There's no connection between me & anyone on there.

In fact I was surprised when I joined here and there weren't already several dozen variations on The Borg Queen already registered and I was able to have it myself!

Well hey, since we're talking about the borg, spout off some ideas.

I'm trying to come up with idea's for the CU Borg and how they would deal with a crippling blow like loss of subspace communications.

And I kind of figured you were someone else. It's actually a couple I met on that site, they go by the borg king, and the borg queen.

WOBW is one of the three novel-length stories in "Glass Empires" a trade-sized paperback punlished by Pocket in 2007, along with "Obsidian Alliances".

the recent Destiny trilogy of novels features the origin of the Borg, which seems unlikely to be the MU Borg's origin...

It makes perfect sense. No other alien species has ever been shown to be particularly different in the Mirror Universe -- the only major difference between the MU and CU is that the Humans of the MU chose to create an oppressive interstellar empire instead of a liberal democracy. There are minor differences -- Klingon leaders being called Regents -- so it makes sense that the Borg would have a minor difference. But there's no reason to assume the Borg would be fundamentally different in the MU.

I read about Destiny's Borg origin story, I didn't really like it that much.

I think you might find that it works a lot better when you actually read it than when you simply read about it.

I for one felt that it was a very moving, disturbing, depressing origin story that also nicely answered the seeming contradictions in canonical Borg behavior (i.e., why did the Queen want Locutus to be "an equal" and a consort rather than just another drone?, why did the Queen have feelings for Seven if the Borg are supposed to be emotionless? why did the Queen contradict the Collective in "Endgame" if they're supposed to be one and the same?, etc.).

I see no reason the Mirror Universe Borg couldn't have had a similar origin.

After all, it's not like we have any idea whatever happened to the ISS Columbia in the 22nd Century.

yes, but could you really see the Caeliar being nice to them and not just banishing them?

Depends on what the Caeliar in that universe are like, and under what circumstances the ISS Columbia would have arrived at Erigol. Amongst other things, it's entirely possible that the Caeliar Quorum in the Mirror Universe is more merciful than the CU. Or perhaps the MU Columbia had a great many wounded requiring medical care, which the Caeliar would have been more likely to grant, then leading into a similar chain of events -- though presumably with a male Caeliar (perhaps Inyx?) rather than Sedin.

From scuttlebut I've heard through the grapewhine, Our Side's Borg actually ASK folks if they want to be assimilated.

If NO, fine. If YES, its beer`n'stibbles, muscatell, tea & crumpets while being gracefully assimilated.

And yes there IS a Borg King, & Borg Princes & Princesses too RU folks.

AFAIK, the Regent is leader of the entire Alliance (Klingons and Cardassians), not just the Klingons.

I think that's the assumption that's generally been made, but I can't find an explicit reference to that in the DS9 script archive. Worf was only ever referred to as "the Regent," with no other explanation being provided.

Since an alliance is usually just that -- an alliance of sovereign states, not a sovereign state in its own right -- I'm inclined to conclude that "Regent" is a Klingon title, not an Alliance title.

Okay, that could be interesting.

"We are the Borg. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service ours. RESISTANCE IS OPTIONAL."

Try this: their goal is not perfection. Their goal is to preserve information and find a way to preserve that information beyond the end of the universe. To do this they upload entire civilizations into a gigantic simulation and use superior technology to research ways to escape the end of the universe and build some unimaginably gigantic contraption outside of the galaxy which they believe will let them do this. Naturally, nobody else knows or understand their motives and sees them as jerks.

And no, they're not just zombies in space. For the most part, they've escaped the tyranny of flesh themselves. They're made of many different subgroups but all working toward the same goal.

In other words, they do not resemble the Borg in any way, shape, or form. ;)

A few years back I wrote a short story for the Strange New Worlds competition that dealt with Voyager encountering the Borg who were fleeing from the Mirror Universe Borg. Granted, it was a goofy story.

The MU Borg travel around in giant smiley-face ships spreading euphoria to all races. So, basically, they're not evil, but they just want to make the galaxy a happy place.
