mp3 player question

Hey, quick question for you folks. About a year ago, I bought a Sansa Sandisk Connect 4GB mp3 player. A couple days ago, it started skipping like a scratched CD. Sometimes it will skip for a few seconds then continue with the song, and sometimes it will skip and then go straight to the song. Does anyone have any guess what this means? Any guess on solutions? I think that resetting the device to warehouse defaults and reloading my music might solve the problem, but I want to try something else, anything else, before erasing and reloading all my music. Thanks in advance!

I'm not the one with a solution for you. Except to say: also try the tech forum, not all TBBSers come to Misc. ;)

^Good point. I'll go ahead and repost there, and leave this one here since Misc probably has a wider audience than the tech area.

I'm a "tech person" with a SanDisk player, so I should know--but I don't. :( It sounds like a problem you'd have with a hard drive player, not a flash one like the Connect is. Rather puzzling. Is it still under warranty? Also, I understand your hesitation to reset the player, but it should only take a few minutes to re-load 4GB, and that seems most likely to help...

Anyway, good luck! I got a SanDisk player this summer and it's been great to me, so I hope you're able to get yours sorted as well. Keep me posted!

I don't think it's still under warranty. And, it's not the reload per se that i want to avoid, but getting my list of songs back together. I get all of my music from CD's, so for the CD's I'm not as familiar with, I'm going to have to go through song-by-song and decide if I want to include it (maybe this time I'll be smart and save a playlist of all the songs I pick). but, I'll probably reset the device and work on uploading the songs again Sunday night when I'm stuck on the RA desk.

I don't know this particular gadget, but couldn't you just transfer the content (at least some of it) to your pc? -from what I understand from ProductWiki it connects wireless

^I could try transfering my songs back to the computer, but if the data is corrupted like I'm half suspecting it is now, then resetting the device and transfering the same files back to the device probably wouldn't help. But I suppose it can't hurt to give it a shot before I go through the long process of finding all my songs again.

Sorry it took me so long to post a reply in here... I got busy and didn't have time to work on fixing the device until about a week ago. And I am having more issues.

Because it only appeared to have been certain songs, I first tried deleting all the media on my device so I could just upload new songs. However, after so many songs, it would come up with a screen saying that there was an error and it would freeze up. It did this a couple of times before I resorted to restoring it to factory defaults. This got rid of everything and I started to upload my songs.

It uploaded about 50 songs, and then my device rebooted. From that point on, it would onl upload 5-10 songs before rebooting again. I decided to use a Device recovery program that Sandisk has, which deletes everything and downloads new firmware. That went through, and I as able to upload all my songs. The problem now is that it started skipping again, and with increased frequency. Anyone have additional suggestions, or am I just going to have to go for a new device? :(

I'm afraid you'll have to reformat it. Before you do that, though, try updating the firmware.

I love my 8gb sansa clip player. And I erase everything and reload it all the time. It doesn't take more than a few minutes.

^Like I said one post above yours, that was the latest thing I tried and it lasted about a day before it started skipping again.

Sounds like it's definitely defective, then. I guess you have no alternative but to buy a new one, or try to exchange it(try wal-mart, they'll let you switch it out if they have that one in stock. Just tell them you bought it there.) That 8gb one I was talking about that just came out is nice. They also have an 8gb sansa fuse that plays video.

^No, it does it both on headphones and on the built in speaker. Also, I tested a couple of songs, and it happens at the exact same place on the same songs every time, so there's definately a device or software issue.
