Movie Ranking!

Maybe a bit premature, but....

Based off what you know/have seen in the trailer, where would you rank this upcoming movie in your personal list?

For me, it would probably still be....

TWOK
Trek XI or TUC
Trek XI or FC
TVH
blah blah the rest whatever

so it could either be my #2, #3, or #4. I don't think I could boldly claim it as my #1 just yet.... but definitely in the top 4.... or at least we hope....

I'm still in the throes of excitement, and haven't seen much. I will say that - based on what I saw in the trailer - it'll probably rank somewhere in the top 3. My ranking for the other films, from favorite to least favorite, is as follows:

TUC
TSFS
TMP
FC
TWOK
TFF
GEN
INS
TVH
NEM

1. Star Trek - First Contact
2. Star Trek - Generations
3. Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country
4. Star Trek - Insurrection
5. Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home
6. Star Trek II - The Wrath Of Khan
7. Star Trek III - The Search For Spock
8. Star Trek - Nemesis
9. Star Trek V - The Final Frontier
10. Star Trek - The Motion Picture

naysayers: let me try to reiterate the point of this thread.

it is how you THINK the movie will rank among your personal favorites based off
(a) how highly you regard the other movies
(b) your expectations for this movie

for example, I hold both TWOK and TUC in such high regard that I doubt this new movie will be able to surpass them. However, it may be able to surpass my current #3 (FC) since it is quite a bit lower than TWOK and TUC.

so, perhaps a better phrasing is: which movies do you regard so highly that there is probably no way Abram's Trek will ever surpass them?

I think STII seems almost untouchable at this point, but its not impossible that this will surpass it. I like my epics!

I does seem odd to rank a film on the basis of its trailer. Shades of the Onion story about the adaptation of the popular Iron Man trailer into a film.

Only three of the Trek movies are unreservedly good films:

The Wrath of Khan
The Voyage Home
First Contact

Personally, after those three, I like The Motion Picture, even with all its warts, but mostly for the nostalgia factor.

All the rest I think are pretty bad Star Trek stories, and even worse films.

As for where this one will rank - if you'd asked me after the teaser I'd have said there was hope for it being in the top four. Now that the trailer is out and has such a completely different feel from the teaser, there is absolutely no way to tell at this point.

I could not DISagree more, esp in the case of Generations and Insurrection. Both dealt with VERY Trek ideas.

As for this new film...based only on the trailer, I'm gonna have to call it #1 on a list of 1. Clearly we're dealing with a new Trek universe, and to compare it with the rest of the franchise does it a disservice.

I agree for the most part - except for a small bit of that last sentence. I agree the rest are not very good films. But I do think a few of them COULD have been good Star Trek stories, had they been executed better than they were. :)

Also, I actually like The Search for Spock. No way that belongs in the same category of badness as Nemesis, which sucked so bad it left a massive black hole in space which still threatens to destroy the universe with it massive gravitational pull of 'bad'.

This is way too early.

But my rankings are:

1. TWOK
2. TUC
3. TMP (mostly for nostalgia, and remembering the thrill of the premiere)
4. TSFS
5. TVH
6. TFF
7. FC
8. GEN
9. NEM
10. INS

Yes, I put Nemesis above insurection. It was crappy, but it wasn't nearly as godawful boring as the tv movie of the week that insurrection was.

Where XI will fit in? Who knows. Depend on the writing. It might get points like TMP did for being an "event," but on multiple viewing might fall below all the films with the original cast, except TFF. Can't imagine it would be worse than that. If it's REALLY bad, it might dip below the Next Gen movies, but I doubt it.
