most formidable enemy dexter has faced?

watermelony2k

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Brian Dexter (ice truck killer), Doakes, Prado, The Skinner, or Arthur Mitchell?

edit: or Lundy? Man, this show makes me feel ambiguous about who's a protagonist/antagonist sometimes. I was actually rooting for Doakes during season 2 despite the likability of Dexter.

Anyone else I missed? Trying to remember...

I'll say Arthur Mitchell as well - the Trinity killer (or should it be Quadruplet Killer). This season was about Dexter trying to lead two lives and manage them as one. We saw the early repercussions with his accident, him dozing off, screwing up in court, etc. The final repercussion with Rita at the end.

AM served this 'theme' of duality really really well.

He gets my vote for the ultimate nemesis (so far). But I think next season will be his most deadliest foe yet:

Himself!

Arthur Mitchell.

Everyone else underestimated Dexter, but Arthur not only had the balls to track him down and face him in public, but he was the only one to really, REALLY hurt Dex.

I mean, HOLY CRAP.:(

No one has ever been able to really, really hurt him until now.

It's definitely Arthur, the Trinity Killer. The series' best villain so far. Brian (aka the Ice Truck Killer) comes close in that the revelation that he was Dexter's brother probably had some psychological impact on Dexter. The fact that he nearly killed Deb also impacted him. But in the end, Dexter still had the upper hand. Dexter has always won. Arthur shook things up - he may have been killed by Dexter's hand, but he hurt him in a way no one has ever managed to do before.

Arthur Mitchell. Calling Dexter his own worst enemy is a copout since almost anyone can say they are their own worst enemy.

By far Dexter's greatest foe is himself, and that's far from always the case for a fictional character - the point of Dexter is that he's his own worst enemy.

But when they finally pull the trigger on the plotline we all know is happening, Deb will certainly come in at a respectable #2.

Dexter has never really faced a truly challenging foe. They're always handicapped by a combination of stupidity, self-defeating mistakes and just sheer nuttiness. Before they launch into the final season (Dexter vs. Deb), they should throw a really big challenge at Dexter with a foe who is not an insane killer, corrupt or secretly wants to be stopped. Sadly, Lundy was that guy. Don't see who could fill his shoes.
