You know, I played the last Mortal Kombat game that came out for PS3, and I enjoyed it. However, I've always felt like these games really work better in multiplayer. Fighting your way through a bunch of computer opponents just isn't as fun as fighting your friends.

I think MK games could actually be great with a more open world setting. Sure, the last one had a story, but it was just a bunch of cutscenes. I think a first-player Mortal Kombat with a playable story could potentially be an awesome gaming experience. You'd still have to fight all the big bad guys, but they could be set up more like Boss fights that you get to do after working through other smaller adventures.

^^ Sounds like an update of those MK side games like Mythologies and Shaolin Monks. I think it could work if they did it right but I found those games a bit too awkward and sloppy. I think the increased horsepower of the machines these days might give an edge to newer attempts at the formula.

As to the trailer, looks over-the-top and cheesy as one would expect from the franchise. It's a fine balance between that and silly so hopefully they stay on the right side.

Well, after playing "Shadow of Mordor" on PS4, I think something like that setup could potentially be awesome for the Mortal Kombat franchise.

I love Mortal Kombat games, but their single player campaigns become very redundant very quickly.
