A small glimmer of hope from Robert Llewellyn:

We're going to have a jolly good time catching up on all the daft stories behind the scenes on Red Dwarf... and all the prospects for more Red Dwarf. [Winks] Aaah, yes indeed - news just through. But I won't tell you till I'm there.

Apparently, the website people know what he's talking about:

Thing is, we can't yet tell you what he's referring to. We'd love to, we're aching to, and it's been on the cards since the website relaunch but... nope, you're just going to have to wait a little while longer.
It'll be worth it. Promise.

Hmm.

Is this the earth-shatteringly awesome Red Dwarf announcement we've all been waiting for since the show ended on Series 6 (yes, it ended on series 6 - yes it did :p)? Or is it just another damp squib, like "more mobisodes" or some other unwanted guff?

All I want is a decent conclusion. Maybe a 90 minute special, written by both Rob Grant and Doug Naylor, CGI by the mill, one final farcical adventure.

Hey, if watery shit like Hyperdrive can get TWO SEASONS, surely Red Dwarf can have one more spin around the block?

I'm assuming specially created mobisodes, that I will never buy, until there's some more info. Bastards got me once with that "Big News coming soon", then just did a shitty redesign on the website.

Ditto as fuck.

I hated them for that. I was so excited during the build up. I endured sweaty palms, an increased heart rate and a shivering torso for about a week, all because "HAI GUYZ WE HAS CHANGED TEH HTML!!!!111111oneoneeleventyone"

Same here, I won't even look at that fucking site until there's an official press release saying exactly what's going to happen with any new material.

The site redesign was promoted in the most utterly ludicrous way imagineable, and to make matters worse they didn't even redesign the craptastic forum which was the only bit of the site I ever looked at for info anyway.

Anyway, i'm not holding my breath this time, i'm assuming it's an overblown load of crap.

Maybe they're finally going to accept that Red Dwarf isn't coming back, and as per the OP, it ended with Out Of Time, and we never got a conclusion. And they apologise.

As much as I love the show, it's almost a decade since series VIII, and the cast are definitely not getting any younger. Plus, I read some of the ideas for drafts for the film... it made me cry. Like Tikka to Ride made me cry.

Go out on a high, while it's still better than Hyperspace :klingon:

(another disgruntled fan who was duped by the mobisode/website re-design debacles :p)

^ Yeah, IIRC the original script for the movie didn't follow the continuity of the TV series (not that the TV showe followed it's OWN continuity mind  ), that raised my eyebrow somewhat.

From what I read, it sounded like it was a mix of stuff from Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers, and The Last Human.

Ah, well I am going to shock you to your core now by telling you that I have not read any of the books...

 I need a minute to compose myself. :D

I recently re-read the first two, and I think they may be my 2 most read books. They aren't entirely different stories to the series, but they're rejigged enough to make them worthwhile reads.

I adore the books. They really feel quite different to the series, and they're so epic. They're often quite evocative of Asimov and Harry Harrison at the same time, which is pretty neat.

I haven't read The Last Human or Backwards in years, I did mean to re-read them after the first 2, but I got reading the DS9 relaunch books again.

All 4 books are excellent. I love the contrast between Backwards and The Last Human where the writers split up and did their own things. Epic isn't the word.

But more Red Dwarf... will never happen.

You know, in that Ramble with Russell podcast that the host linked her a week or so ago, Farrell actually talks about her experience as "The Cat" on Red Dwarf US. She was obviously aware of the UK series, because she noted how she couldn't play an effeminate man, basically because she was a woman. ;)
She seemed to have positive things to say about her experience with that anyway.

As for the announcement... I'm thinking that it will be something like the Comedy Connections thing that aired a few years ago, where people talk about their past experiences on the show and whatnot. Like the MASH reunion. I'd be happy with that, I suppose... since a proper series will never be coming.

As for the mobisodes, whatever happened with those?

Don't you mean Hyperdrive? Or, as it's properly known, Hyperdross?

Something like that ;) It seems I didn't really pay that much attention to what I type. JUST AS LONG AS MY OPINION IS PRINTED. With madd skillz like that, I'm should think about a career in politics... or the series VII writing team. (ohhhh a-buuurn!)
