News More Details On Star Trek: Discovery: Desperate Hours

After three years as Picard's XO, Riker had turned down a few promotions and it was felt that he needed a kick in the rear end to get his career moving forward.

It doesn't seem odd at all to me that after a year as XO Burnham and her CO would start taking about her next move.

"The Cage" was set in 2254.

"The Menagerie" took place in 2267.

There is no continuity error.

David, I'm about half-way through Control (and enjoying it greatly) and I was wondering if there are any vague references to it in Desperate Hours, as part of it takes place in the 22nd century. I was thinking specifically if there was a mention of Uraei.

Either way, I'm really looking forward to this novel.

^Just guessing, but I would expect that the goal for Discovery novels, at least to start with, is to reference only Discovery (and prior canon) and be independent of the the novelverse (though hopefully not incompatible with it). After all, a large part of their target audience would be new fans and new readers.

And there's no guarantee that Uraei/Control would have to show up in any given novel or series, anyway.

Uraei doesn't have its hand in absolutely everything that the Federation does - and it's entirely possible that it won't have anything to do with any event that ever happens in DSC.

I mean, if there's a reason why Uraei might turn up in a DSC novel, I'm sure the author(s) would think of something, but it doesn't have to. Only if it serves the story.

^ This.

Thanks guys, for the input. As I said, I was just curious about the possibility. The premise for DH alone is intriguing and can't wait to get my hands on it.

:techman:

I'm looking forward to Reading Desperate hours and the back stories of these characters is something I like to read about in the different Star trek series of novels.

It will be interesting to see if any of the background details from the novels make it into the series.

I don't know about the non-Discovery novels, but some of the stuff that David Mack developed for Desperate Hours did get back to the show's writers who then incorporated it into the show itself.

David Mack posted a link to a new interview he did about Desperate Hours over in the Discovery forum.
According to interview Kirsten Beyer actually has an official title, Media Tie-In Coordinator.

JD thanks for posting a link to the interview it was really interesting to read about the ideas about the writing of Desperate Hours. by David Mack.
