Star Trek has been nominated for Best Art Direction and, more importantly, Best Ensemble, by the Washington DC Film Critics.

Best Ensemble
The Hurt Locker | Summit Entertainment
Nine | The Weinstein Company
Precious | Lionsgate
Star Trek | Paramount
Up in the Air | Paramount

Best Art Direction
The Lovely Bones | Paramount
Nine | The Weinstein Company
Star Trek | Paramount
Where the Wild Things Are | Warner Bros.
The Young Victoria | Apparition

Not too shabby being in this kind of company. While there's no chance in hell it's going to win, what this means, especially after the NBR Top Ten for the film, is that there is some support for the movie out there and if fate will have it, the Star Trek franchise may have its very first Best Picture nominee in February.

Oh, I do! I'd love it if the film gets that kind of attention. But since I follow all this award business very closely each year, I know what's likely and what's not.

On a side note, Up in the Air is a fantastic movie...just got back from seeing it. For the Best Ensemble category, with the acting pedigree in Nine, I'd be shocked if it didn't win. I could see Art Direction going to any of the nominated films.

Detroit Film Critics Association :wtf: nominated Star Trek in the Best Ensemble category. It missed out on any of the other major awards. This is a weird group of nominees, but who knows. Inglourious Basterds will likely win as its also nominated for Best Picture and Best Director, and has two of the best performances of the year from Christoph Waltz & Mélanie Laurent.

Best Ensemble
The Hangover
Inglourious Basterds
Precious
Star Trek
Zombieland

Boston Film Critics Awards

Star Trek tied with Precious for the Best Ensemble award.

FYI, Golden Globes nominations are tomorrow at 5am PST. Star Trek won't get any nominations, but still interesting to note.
