Funny-followed first link and that was the next one I clicked on. I like the screaming knife, too.

When you look at the Monolith Action figure from the correct angle, is it full of stars?

BTW, the 1:4:9 proportions are an invention of Arthur Clarke's novelization of the screenplay. None of the various sizes of monoliths used in the film had those exact proportions.

It's incorrect to call it a novelization of the screenplay, because the screenplay didn't come first. Clarke and Kubrick developed their respective projects jointly; in fact, the original plan was to do the novel first and base the film on it. In practice, both projects were developed in parallel by both men, to the point that it's impossible to call either one the original.

So Clarke's ideas would've been integral to the development of the film all along. If the monoliths in the film didn't match his idea of their proportions, I'd call that either artistic license or a production error.

Yes, I stand corrected. The novel and film versions of 2001 were developed concurrently. I do recall some source -- possibly Jerome Agel's The Making of Kubrick's 2001 -- saying that the monolith props used in the movie were all slightly different from each other and none of them measured exactly 1:4:9.

And don't forget that the sequence "extends into higher dimensions."

I'd love to have a Monolith action figure. That's hilarious. :rommie:

^^ I should, and make a little Moonscape to set it on. :rommie:

What about a Star Child figure with moving eyes?
That would be great-- Moonwatcher, Bowman and Star Child figures with the Monolith in the background.
