Moments when you knew you were watching Star Trek

number6

Vice Admiral
Let's complete this circle and ask which moments in this new film just stood out as being Star Trek..

For me this film was Star Trek from the get go:

We get shields down to xx% and evasive pattern xx pretty much right out of the gate. Robau's shuttle looks like a TOS shuttle. We get a teaser before the title card, and the only ship in range, red shirt death..

Tell me what moment was uniquely a Star Trek moment for you!!

From the *pings* and chatter of various ship wide Departments heard as the closeup Kelvin flyby occurred in the first seconds of the film.

From the very moment the first images appeared on the screen.

Is it November 17th yet? I want my DVD!

Exactly! I felt comfortable immediately.

I second that.

The whole movie felt like Star Trek. Sure there were moments and scenes that were a bit different, but on the whole, Orci, Kurtzman and Abrams did a fantastic job satisfying us fans.

Even though I felt right at home from the very first moment I must admit seeing Leonard Nimoy not only choked me up it really help make it that much more real.

Interesting. For me, I fully accepted the movie from beginning. Seeing Nimoy was nice and nostalgic, but I had already bought into the Trek universe and had he not been present, I wouldn't have been too upset.

I always new I was watching a Star Trek film, but it was never Star Trek. It's just another story set in yet another alternate universe.

I know that's technically the case, but for all intents and purposes this was basically meant as a reboot, and so that's how I viewed it.

I wasn't sitting there the whole time going "oh look, it's Alternate Kirk! And Alternate Spock!" They were just Kirk and Spock, in a slightly reimagined way.

I don't think we should be having to compromise in our own heads for us to make sense of it. It's flat out stated that it's an alternate universe/timeline so I'm going to view it as such. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, but knowing that the 'real' Kirk and Spock are knocking around somewhere else slightly diluted that enjoyment.
