Remember when Twitter confirmed Smith and Karen would go to New york?

Wednesday, March 31, 2010 - Posted by Marcus

BBC America has announced that Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, along with show-runner Steven Moffat, will make a promotional trip to New York in the week leading up to the launch of the new series in North America on April 17.

The trip will include a special screening of The Eleventh Hour on Wednesday, April 14, at 7:00 PM at the Village East Cinema in Manhattan, to be followed by a Question and Answer session with Smith, Gillan and Moffat.

The screening, which is free, will be open to the public on a first come, first served basis.

More details on the BBC America Facebook page.

So anyone in New York, here's your chance to meet Smith and Gillian

Great pic! Man, Karen really has a personality, doesn't she? I think I like her more than Amy Pond...

I don't know, after all we don't know if Karen owns her own policewoman/nurse/french maid outfits...

SONOFABITCH. The photo of Karen was taken RIGHT AROUND where I work. Gr.

AND, to top it all: I can't go to the screening. My wife's show is opening, so, that's where I'll be.

*sigh*

I love my wife, I love my wife, I love my wife...

I have a very similar problem (as well as similar proximity - I'm up at 53rd St.!) in that my wife is ill and I'm the only caretaker, so I'll have to miss it as well. (If she were well, we'd both have tried to go... :()

This morning Matt Smith spoke to Red Symonds on ABC Radio Melbourne 774 via telephone from New York.

Was a nice suprise on the way to work! :)

A report on the screening

Ok, guys, I managed to make it to the screening...by getting there at 3:15 and waiting for four hours. Saw a pretty british girl dressed up as Amy Pond in the police outfit, a guy dressed in Doc 10's Blue outfit, another guy dressed in doc 10's brown outfit complete with the trenchcoat, and the hat and lais he had in End of Time. Here's my thoughts:

- The showing of "Eleventh Hour" was really good, and the audience was really into it. Lots of laughing during the episode as well. They cheered when 11 came on screen, and Adult Amy got a few cat calls in her cop outfit

- Whoever said the place would be filled with Fangirls was right. And they were all pretty much Tennant Fans as far as I was concerned. During the scene where the previous doctors were shown, the past docs got applause, but the cheers tennant got were insane.

- The Q & A was entertaining. Matt was wearing people's scarf's and hats, and borrowed someone's toy sonic screwdriver for a few minutes. Moffat is funny as hell, and had a lot of sarcastic answers. Karen is really nice, and seems quirky too. The last question was a guy creepily asking if Karen was "into chubby chasers", and said that if she was, she should meet him at a sushi bar. It was awkward, creepy, and somewhat endearing all at the same time.

Anyway, I had fun. I feel bad for those who didnt get in, as a lot of people cut the line, joining their friends who were on line for hours.

The "First come, First Serve" part was a bad idea but at least no one got hurt.

Ah Matt still need to build up his fangirl base. Already people are scribbling their Amy/Doctor fanfics.

I wonder if the three of them are going to be in New York for a few days? Because of the ash, they can't fly back to the UK (unless they journeyed by TARDIS).

Looks like Smith is wearing the suit from the first few publicity photos.

It's nice to see WHO finally get some more recognition in America :)

"Missed it by that much!"

What kind of show is that?

She's doing a solo show she wrote.

*sigh*

I love my wife, I love my wife, I love my wife...
Consider the cool husband points you'll be getting though. :techman:

True. Very true. Still. Imagine the cool points I could've gotten at the Doctor Who... oh...yeah.

Alright. Yeah, I made the right choice.

I should have been more specific. Is this music, a play? Regardless, 'tis most cool!

There's a good 'sonic screwdriver' joke in here somewhere, but I think I better not look for it.....

That might be your opinion, but this blogger is closer to what I feel about that. The URL pretty much sums it up:

It's bulls*it like that which makes people like Karen Gillan stop attending fan events. Some people need professional help and if that asshole happens to be a member of this BBS he'd better skulk off and see a shrink.

Sorry, there's a difference between "endearing" and f****g stupid.

I love the fact that Who is getting accross the pond like it is. Its fabulous. :techman:

The photos are great though, Smith is really out there in his random outfits, i love 'em. I have a photo of myself in almost the same spot as Karen is. Its Fab. :techman:

Being here in the UK, we dont get events that are that big. I mean, we didnt get a big screening, Cardif did. Didnt get one in london as far as i know. :(

BTW, how tall is Matt, sometimes he looks average height around 5.9/10 ish, then sometimes he looks about 6.4 or something. Camera angles are a big factor, yeah, but isnt Karen Gillan close to 6ft anyway. Just curious if anyone knows this sad sad bit of information.

He's 5'11

I do think it's great that on such a little continent so many actors and actresses reside there.

Forgive the distance estimate but people could be 3 or 4 hours away from "doctor who" episode filming. Or walk around Nottingham and meet some actors.

Oh if only!

Actually I do only work across the road from the BBC in Nottingham so it's possible, have seen the odd vaguely famous face (and famously an old school Dalek left outside for some reason!)

And Skidoo, I agree, I don't think it's endearing either. I remember going to a Trek convention years ago, and in between all the nice questioning was a load of crap being directed at Jennifer Lien just because she had the misfortune to be young, female and pretty.

Fancying actors is one thing, imagining you have a hope in hell with them is something else...

Unless it's Barrowman of course ;)

Wow, Matt looks like he fits right in in NYC. :)

Yeah that sort of crap been going on for as long as I've been a fan. There's always one wierd one in the crowd that leaves the audience facepalming. Hopefully the one idiot won't ruin it for the rest of us. Though I suspect Moffat knows fans well enough that he can dispell any lingering creepy feelings.
