Moffat gives hints about Series 7+ (spoilers)

Den of Geek has run a preview of the 2012 Brilliant Book, and the book contains a lengthy interview with Moffat about the next couple of seasons. The article doesn't give everything away, but there are a couple of points it brought out:

* Apparently Amy and Rory are not in the Christmas special. This is odd given that there were reports that Gillan and Darvill were spotted on location for the special. Maybe they just dropped by to say hello... Given how the finale ended, it makes sense for the Doctor to be travelling on his own for a while, but we already know Amy and Rory will be back, so maybe this is just a hiatus for them.

* He does plan to bring River back but it apparently is up to Alex Kingston (maybe a reference to Kingston being cast in Upstairs Downstairs TNG? Probably not as the interview was done months before that announcement).

* The book seems to confirm the split season report - some episodes in 2012 followed by some in 2013, 14 in total (does this mean the 2012 Christmas special will actually officially be considered part of a season for once?). Moffat reiterates how the desire is to air DW at a better time than spring or summer (which makes sense as the show was constantly getting hit in the ratings during good weather, though the BBC is partly to blame for at some points nearly making it an afternoon series).

* The biggest note (at least in DoG's story) is Moffat says for the 50th anniversary the series will be in production longer than ever before. Could this mean a longer season? Interesting. (Sadly, Moffat's comments once again would have predated last week's BBC cuts announcement, so we'll have to see if any of this comes to pass; then again, Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon did so well for BBC America I'll be surprised if there aren't more co-productions.)

There's a separate thread here on the Brilliant Book itself: http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=148966.

Probably whether two of the Doctor's companions would be in the Christmas special.

There's no harm in being cautious as a courtesy. Plus, given how the season ended ambiguously with the Amy and Rory's future with the Doctor, I would think revealing one way or the other gives more information about the plot than if the Doctor will be in it.

A longer production for the 50th Anniversary year, might be down to any number of the following :-

A special 2part/TV Movie for the 50th Anniversary day
Special programmes for a theme night

There was definitely location filming at Bute Esplanade in Cardiff, the location of the Pond's house (which was decorated with lights and other Christmassy things) featuring The Doctor, Amy and Rory on 17th September. So there's at least one scene that has been filmed during the Christmas Special filming that features them.

^Yeah the fact that only 3 people were watching anymore really means the end for Who...oh no, wait a mo it's still really popular so I'm afraid you'll probably have to bitch about next series as well :)

Season seven is the worst show ever produced. Moffat should be castigated by the press and fans for purveying this travesty under the guise of Doctor Who.
That should sum it up for you, Bones, it should save you the time writing just copy and paste at your leisure.

It would be nice if you dialed back the dislike. What you do have to contribute of good critique is often buried by knee-jerk disdain. More often than not to the extent that I scroll past what ever you write since there is little but the like of what is in the out set.

It's a bit of a spoiler that it's not been cancelled following the latest disaster of a series.

With viewing figures ranging from 5 to 8 million people watching, i bet the BBC wishes it had more "disasters" like series 6 of Doctor Who.

It'll be incredibly low budget as well. 60 minutes of Vastra and Jenny stood under some misteltoe

It could be that Rory and Amy have a small cameo. If Moffat announced they are in the Christmas special it may suggest they have big roles. A surprise cameo is only surprising if we don't expect them to be in it.

which makes sense as the show was constantly getting hit in the ratings during good weather, though the BBC is partly to blame for at some points nearly making it an afternoon series).
And also that fact that it was sheer luck if you managed to tune in from the start on a Saturday evening. It moved around ever week.

It needs be on at 7pm during winter months when it's cold and dark outside.
