Modern Warfare2 General Thread

I kept the title generic on purpose. According to the head of Sales for Gamestop they have more pre-orders for this at their stores alone than COD-WAW sold across the board in the first 24 hours. That means the pre-orders for Best Buy, etc aren't even being counted in that number-just Gamestop. It's expected to hit the half a billion$ mark, with 10 million units shipping in the Q4 alone. So a few people may have comments to make in the weeks to come, hence the title.

That said, has anyone heard the controversy about the solo campaign? A leaked copy showed you having to slaughter civilians who are trying to flee in terror. I gather there have been a few objections.

Anybody thinking about investing in Activission Blizzard and then cashing out on the MW2 hype when it launched?

It's nowhere near the 52week high which is good and at the sametime the "analyst" feel the DJ hero was a dud. But I think the sales of MW2 are going to be through the roof and it will at least pump this stock up for next week.

Yeah, I posted about the leak in the previous CoD thread.

I'm still looking forward to the game, but the recent "F.A.G.S." controversy turned me off a bit.

One thing has surprised me; we're now less than a week from release, and I haven't seen a single MW2 advert on TV.

Anyway, had mine on pre-order for a while. ShopTo have also upgraded my delivery to Next Day free of charge to avoid any issues with the postal strikes. Can't wait for it to arrive. :D

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with Modern Warfare 2. On one hand I'm pretty unhappy with Activision and the things they have been doing to the game industry. I wasn't planning on getting Modern Warfare 2 until I could get a decent deal on it, but getting a $20 credit on a future videogame purchase at Amazon is a pretty sweet deal.

I have gotten a little more hyped on the game compared to where I was a few months back, but I still don't have a lot of hype for it, and I'm actually looking forward to New Super Mario Brothers Wii more then anything else.

I'm happy that Infinity Ward is going to require Steam and is using VAC, but I'm not happy with the decision to remove dedicated servers and I fear the main reason they went with Steam is because they could easily sell DLC through Steam instead of giving it away with patches.

Really I'm not sure if I'm going to buy MW2 right now.

Well they don't really need to advertise it right away, it will sell very well without any advertisements and I'm sure the word of mouth from people who buy it will be pretty strong.

I imagine Activision will start airing TV ads eventually but I don't think they are all that necessary for launch.

Wow, havent been on the BBS on months. Could MW2 be the thing that allows me to rediscover my love for this place??

Anywho, is there much difference between the PS3 and 360 versions? I have both consoles and i am at a loss to which one to purchase...

Got COD 2 and COD 4 MW very early into release but will wait a while for MW 2 because there are other games I want more first and a few things about what Activision/IW has done to the series lately has annoyed me...

* COD has gone from a SP game to more of a MP game

* MP never been that great due to hacks are easily made for an engine designed to looks pretty but have no real substance coding wise.

* No dedicated servers when I do want to play MP, matchmaking sucks on console.

* Clear its a 360 port and am sorry but the home of fast paced FPS games are NOT on auto/assist aiming consoles but on the mouse/keyboard of a mouse

* Oh the price hike is stupid and infact Activison Blizzard CEO or something like that said they should be able to charge what they want for a game without any watchdog trouble...he even hinted at $100

they don't really care about fans anymore. Saying that once a decent price drop occurs I will play MW 2 for the SP and possible maybe the CO-OP online too.

Playing devils advocate. Why should videogames have a watchdog? It isn't like water, or electricity. You don't like the price you don't play. Simple as that.

I plan on picking this title up on launch day and as luck would have it, I'm off work the next day, so I'm sure I'll be getting a lot of multiplayer time in next Weds. I haven't pre-ordered it though, but my local Best Buy always has plenty of copies so I'm not too concerned.

The first Modern Warfare became my all time online multiplayer experience, although I do agree with what some have said here about "hacks" and glitches. It was a real problem with World at War so I have some concerns about this title. To this day, I fail to understand the fun in cheating in competitive online gaming. So you used a hack and you're invincible and you won. So what?

Gaming world today = charging full price for games that have less and less content, full of bugs and they keep stuff back to release it as DLC later. Not too mention some game companies were apparantly caught giving out hacks for there own games so then for example punkbuster could then get these people later down the line block them so they have to go out and buy a new copy again :wtf:

we need a watchdog...were not all rich enough to play stupid prices amsorry my pockets are not as deep as yours guess that means I should not be allowed to play one of my hobbies. I don't pirate games but feels like there trying to make me.

Gaming is not a right.

If you can't afford a game, save up, get a better job or wait for the price to drop. Publishers are free to charge as high as they like; YOU are free to spend your money on something else.

I am concerned with hacks. Mainly because i feel IW doesn't address them the way Tryarch did with WAW. Yes, there were a lot but they stomped them fairly quick. Will IW? Their track record on COD4 says maybe not. That said-I'll be in front of my TV about 12:20-12:30am with a controller in my hand, and a beer in my cup holder. Wouldn't miss this for the world.

BTW, Tomato, stock up .29c a share since NYSE close yesterday. Took a look at history-I predict 13-14$ a share when first 24hr sales figs released.

Yeah I picked it up today I think I bought in a $11. I have 5g's of playing day trade money just to help teach, learn from mistakes. I think MW2 hype is hysterical and "analysts" don't know dick all about video games. With all the different tiers and ways to milk $ which is Activision is great at, this is going to be a smash hit as an investor. So we are going to see the hype and Activision is going to do press releases to show how they killed it with MW2.

Agreeded. It is like cars, if you think a car is shit. Don't buy it. Then you become like GM, and Chrysler and die. And now as a shareholder, I feel they should do their duty and milk people for all they are worth. This is just classic fanboys bitching and moaning. I think people got over 2 years worth of entertainment with on line alone with COD4. If that isn't value I don't know what is.

I have to imagine those shares will tumble when Band Hero, DJ Hero and Tony Hawk bomb though. :p

Sort of like how GTA4 did nothing for Take 2 in the long run.

Just in case people don't know, Game here in the UK are doing a trade in, you trade in COD4 and you get CODMW2 for £23...this offer runs until the 20th of this month.

Not to bad a deal there.

Saw an advert on TV for it today.

I am so looking forward to this game.
