MMPB Margins?

What's up with the inner (spine-side) margins, lately? I got the second Typhon Expanse novel, and I really have to crank the book open to see the words nearest the spine, since the margin is so small. I don't like having to open the book so wide, since it wears out paperbacks. I generally try to open the book only as wide as necessary so that the novel doesn't get all "puffy".

Is it just me? I've noticed this on a few books recently.

I suspect it is just you, I can't say I've got that problem, but then again, I have no issues with opening the book and cracking the spine!

I seldom open books very far, but I've not noticed any problem with (or change to) the interior margins either.

Mine does the same, particularly on even numbered pages. If I don't bend the cover almost back, I can't read the words nearest the spine. Just checked.

I'm not saying I'm just b-a-r-e-l-y cracking open the book, I just don't splay it wide open when I read, generally. With several books recently, I've noticed I have to open them wider than normal (for me).
