Ruminations:
They say honesty is always the best policy, and it's something I agree with, in general. The truth will set you free. It depends, however, upon what kind of truth is being told. There are truths akin to facts, where we say the sky is blue, water is wet, and the Sun is warm. Then there are opinions we speak truthfully. This episode is about the latter. Applejack gets tapped by Rarity to be a judge in her fashion competition, which seems like a decent idea until you realize AJ doesn't couch her honesty in any kind of softness. She's blunt to the point of brutal, and it should be interesting to see how this all plays out. On to the episode!

As I figured, Applejack's personality created friction between her, the fashion ponies, and Rarity. We all knew that part was coming.
I do like, however, how Applejack eventually faced up to her honesty, realizing that bluntness and honesty don't have to go hand in hand, er hoof in hoof. One can be honest, and still considerate of other ponies' feelings. That she makes up with the ponies, helps the show go on, and heals the rift between herself and Rarity, it speaks so very well of Applejack's good character.

Also, a thousand RariJack ships were launched once more that day. This episode gets a solid B+.

Finally got around to watching the episode. I gave it an A. I loved how it dealt with how hard AJ's element can be to deal with. You can be able to appreciate something without fully understanding and loving it. You also must use tact when dealing with people.

Exactly. In an ideal world, someone could take honest criticism without it causing pain, but in the real world, we're flesh and blood creatures, and rejection wounds us. Applejack, as honest as she was, caused those ponies pain. She didn't mean to, and in her own way she thought she was helping. It's good that she learned such a valuable lesson.

I think AJ is underappreciated and this episode is one of those that I really think showcases her well. And when she knows she's screwed up, she does everything in her power to make it right.

True. AJ's stubbornness is both a hindrance, and an asset in this episode.
