Ruminations:
Episode 6 already! Yes, for those of you who know, this episode aired last week on Treehouse, a Canadian television station. However, as I said before, we're going to keep doing these in the proper order according to U.S. release dates. Treehouse did this last year, too. Eventually they'll hit a wall, but until then we ride it out. That said, this episode focuses on Rarity coming to terms with Sweetie Belle growing up and her tastes changing. I enjoy the Rarity/Sweetie Belle episodes, so this one should be good.

This was a good slice of life episode. As we can see, Sweetie Belle is growing up. She's a little taller, she's more mature, she's developed hobbies and interests outside the shadow and influence of her sister, and I think Rarity's just not quite ready for that, as the episode goes on to show in great detail. There's a good lesson here about acknowledging the ascent to adulthood for those whom we have known since childhood. It can be difficult, but it's the right thing to do, and it helps them take their first real steps into a new world, with support from the people they care about.

Of course, as we all know, Rarity doesn't do subtle. She's all about the drama, and it shows in how she reacts to Sweetie Belle's changed tastes. What Rarity thought she once knew about the filly, she's found out that the information is beyond its sell-by date, and has become obsolete. The adventure is in watching her finally come to terms with that herself. There's also a B-story about Zipphorwil's doggy, and it's cute, as is she, and they lead to the very same conclusions.

Not a complex story, but a sweet one. This one gets a solid B+ from me.
