Ruminations:
Fluttershy has a brother, and he's a no good loafer! So who do we get on the case to get him off his flank and back into the living and working world?! Why Fluttershy, of course! So we finally get to meet Fluttershy's brother. I think this is something many of us have looked forward to for a while. I want to see Fluttershy's parents, also Rainbow Dash's and Scootaloo's but we'll save that for another day. This honestly looks like a lot of fun, and I'm hoping the episode will be awesome, because Fluttershy is awesome and deserves an awesome episode. What do you think?

And she somehow never brought this up after the big surprise of Twilight's brother and seeing how the others reacted?

I'm interested to see what he looks like, the pegasi seem to have the closest resemblance to each other of the species. Rainbow Thunder and Mrs. Spitfire had a very big similarity.

I've seen what he looks like from the trailer, and quite frankly it is rather surprising.

Edit: I just posted the trailer above. It's a bit spoilery, but it does show her brother and their parents.

I know I'm halfway through, but it's getting an A from me!!
Am I imagining things or did they pattern Zephyr after Matthew McCaunaghey? And we're seeing that Flutters is braver than we thought. We are also seeing ponies that remember who the Mane Six are.
And this had a great message. You have to try, even if there's a risk you'll fail.
Solid A!

At the end of the teaser, I really didn't know what to feel. I thought there was a good chance this episode was going to be a trainwreck. But it wasn't. It was a good story with a strong lesson, and an excellent Fluttershy episode.

And another good song!

It was really good to see how Fluttershy has developed from the first season, and how comfortable she feels in herself.

I don't think it's quite an A from me, but a strong B+.

Hooray! Slice of life!

This was a good episode. The message is clear (failing can be scary, but not even trying is even worse), and the characters are on point. We got to meet Fluttershy's parents, who are adorably shy like she is, and it's funny to see that she's the more assertive one in the family. Zephyr Breeze has good character design, good personality, and really reminds me of Matthew McConaughey for some reason. I also like that Fluttershy is the big sister, and it gives us a better idea of how old Fluttershy might just be (older than Pinkie and probably Rainbow by a bit, and younger than Rarity, Applejack and Twilight possibly).

The story itself is simple: unorganized, unfocused sibling can't hold down a job, keeps moving back in with parents and then mooches off of them until the next failed venture. Their parents are doormats, in general, and give in every time, and of course the sibling doesn't learn his lesson, so Fluttershy has to step in and put her hoof down (see what I did there?) to make him change for the better, and it works. I think the pacing was just right for this kind of episode, and the little winks and nods were fun to watch.

I also loved the bit where Zephyr thinks Rainbow Dash is in love with him, and it's made all the funnier because Fluttershy's parents think the same thing. Rainbow's reactions to Zephyr's advances are hilarious, and I couldn't help but cheer for her every time she rebuffed his silliness with sarcasm and disdain.

Just a simple slice of life episode that lets us finally meet Fluttershy's family. For what it is, I give it an "A". It doesn't ask too much, but it gives plenty in return. :)

So parents confirmed alive...
Rainbow's dad...
Rarity's parents.
Pinkie's parents.
Twily's parents.
Fluttershy's parents... also confirmed, where she got her demeanor.

And AJ's parents are still very much dead. I noted that Littlest Pet Shop confirmed that the lead character's mother was dead much the same way that they've confirmed AJ's parents in MLP.

Probably, but we don't know if that character was her dad or another family member. Plus, it had been years prior when she was a little filly, so it's not exactly 100%.

Yep. I hope they do a flashback of her parents, though. It would be neat to see what they looked like.

^But he was in Hearth's Warming Tail as well. He was standing next to Bulk Biceps in the last scene and reprise of "Hearth's Warming Eve is Here."

Hmm, then it's possible he's still alive. I'm not sure if he's her father, though, but it seems likely.
