A second watching of the episode, with the added perspective, makes it a much smoother watch for me. I would like to see them have separate adventures, kind of like a Quantum Leap of cutie mark crusading. Hell, I'd watch the shit out of a Quantum Leap CMC TV show.
Yeah, it's setting up them having lives outside of each other (weird that they didn't, since we see them doing their hobbies etc other episodes) and only teaming up for Cutie Mark Crisis'
I was a little disappointed in how the CMCs got their cutie marks, and this episode meandered somewhat in asking the "now what?" question. Now, there's precedent in ponies having related cutie marks (Flim & Flam, arguably Snips & Snails), but there's also the precedent of cutie marks changing as ponies age (Filthy Rich). I'd like to think that if the CMCs grow & change enough, their CMs may change to something more individualistic.
I don't know, I gave a it a solid B. I got the moral, could see what they were trying to do with it, and it's a logical followup to them getting their marks. The pacing and writing fell down though, it was a rough episode and not nearly as good as some CMC stories.
