Episode Title: "Canterlot Boutique"

Summary: "Rarity finally achieves her long-time dream of owning a boutique in Canterlot, but she faces a difficult challenge when she realizes the business has a price that she may not be willing to pay; she struggles to keep her business operating."

Ruminations:
Oh, sweet mother of Celestia, it's back! After so many months we've returned with the second half of season 5, and this one looks intriguing. I have wondered for quite some time as to what Rarity would do if she truly achieved the fame and fortune she had been seeking, and we may get a taste of that in this episode. I'm so nervouscited!

It happens! "Made in Manehattan" seems to be slated as the 16th episode of this season, so it's 2 episodes from now. :)
 
Pretty much a 'meh' episode, predicatible as hell from the beginning, does not break out of that the entire time, felt like it was over very quickly and did nothing new.

It just rehashed the last two times Rarity did this with no lesson learned and the "villain" of the piece was just extremely one dimensional.

The background ponies were the only good thing about this episode and they got far too little time.

Goth pony was odd, Tara's Raven character but Andrea voicing her lol.

Frazzle in a fluffy dress was the best thing. Really, she was adorable.

Asleigh gets a new pony, random beach pony but she's cute.

That fat pony though, jesus that's pure nightmare fuel right there, damn.

I'll say B on this one. It did go with a different branch of Rarity pursuing her dream. And that spoke to me.
 
I'd be tempted to bump it up to a B for this:

And the Goth/Beach pony sisters. But Sassy and...whatever that was at the end just get in the way.
 
I would say this one was a decent episode. It isn't something we haven't seen from Rarity before.

The goth pony was my favorite, and Frazzle was just too adorable (smiley ponies make me smile). I actually liked seeing the really big pony, as she at least gave us the concept that ponies truly were many shapes and sizes.

Sassy Saddles in this one isn't much of a villain, of course, but really she just annoys me. What manager, in their right mind, starts stepping on the owner's toes and makes decisions while the owner is still there and running things? I would have fired her for certain. You don't rename my work, you don't take over my boutique and countermand my wishes, and you don't order me around as if I'm some kind of slave.

So for me there wasn't really a "redemption" at the end.

Still, all in all, new pony, we're back, hopefully for some great episodes. This episode gets a "B" from me because of Pinkie's introduction into the episode.

I've heard several people give her the nickname "Jelly Bean," and I love it. I want to hug the big pony.
 
Actually she's being called "Tumblrina", everyones comparing her to Tumblr, no idea why. But she's certainly scary.

I want more of Moonbeam and Sunshine now. :lol:

They're so like Pinkie and Maud, only slightly more normal.

Yeah, they were definitely fun. More of them doing their thing would be nice.

Regarding "Tumblrina," I wonder if she was supposed to be a reference to someone in particular, as she appears out of nowhere, says "Oh my gawsh! A sale?!" and then her cutie mark is herself inside of a group of stars.

Her mane is also markedly different from other pony manes, so I just wonder.

If it's a reference, I'm missing it.
 
No idea. The cast on twitter even said she was a last second punchline. Which is more a reflection on the writing of the episode, which as others have said, isn't great.

Also, the entire episode is a production line of unicorns wanting to be princesses coming into the store and leaving with dresses with wings on them....

Ah, okay. I just figured she was made to stand out, and must have represented somepony.

As for the writing, while I did like the message of the episode, the antagonist in this one just annoyed me rather than got me rooting for Rarity. It's a good thing I already like Rarity!

Plus, I was hoping for CoCo Pommel to return.

Also, the entire episode is a production line of unicorns wanting to be princesses coming into the store and leaving with dresses with wings on them....

Ah, good old M.A. Larson; Even when he hasn't done anything directly, we still feel the ripple effects of his Master Troll. :lol:
 
Coco is turning up again, there are two more Rarity episodes directly after this one, and she's in one of them. Can't wait to see her again.

We're being spoiled for interesting new secondary characters, they're running out of screentime to concentrate on them all.

Really?! I mean, *ahem*, good. It will be nice to see Coco again. I've kind of been wanting to see her, you know, a bit. :shifty:
 
B episode for me. All thought plenty of shipping &/ R34 fodder out there for certain parts of the fandom.

Incoming Derpy Itunes reissue of the episode in 3...2...1

The tumblr thing comes from the meme/joke about all tumblrinas being overweight snowflakes (see: the star spangled self portrait cutie mark) that think of themselves of the most special of specials.

^Moonlight Raven and Sunshine Smiles are sisters, but that never stopped parts of the fandom before I suppose. As for RariSass, probably going to be a thing.

Didn't know that about Tumblr, I rarely go there for anything but gifs, everyone there looks super thin, dangerously so but okay. Stretching the term my "little" pony though.
