It's been at least three years, they mention Summer Sun Celebrations and Galloping Gala's happening that they don't go to. Rainbow said it was "their turn" to have winter so they don't get it every year.

Plus Shimmer mentions months passing between each EQG visit etc

If that's the case, then that's even worse. 3 years, at least, and no growth from Spike? That's a criminal underuse of his character.

Though it makes his "oh noes, I'm only a sidekick" powerpuff episode even more funny. Because, that's all he is.

How come we never see the map?

Yeah, Spike has to feel pretty bad about that by now.

And tip scalding coffee down their sides.

Watched it again this morning. I hold with my original rating, but I think a common theme of Spike is that he often does things for his mentor/big sister/mom that start out with the best of intentions. Predictably, it blows up in his face. He wanted to help Twilight and follow what Cadance asked him to do, but then he went too far. Maybe another Spike-centric episode should show him asking for help and getting turned away because someone's busy?
