We open with Spike, Big Mac, and Discord talking to the camera. This is going to be a story within a story. So Spike takes us up on a hill where he and Big Mac are discussing a surprise Big Mac has for Sugar Belle. The surprise?
Big Mac is proposing to Sugar Belle! That's right! He wants to get married, and he's enlisted his best friend Spike, and Discord has obviously tagged along. Big Mac has set up this great romantic gesture involving a picnic, apples, and a ring. It's rather adorable, and of course Discord promises not to say anything and promptly yells it out loud from excitement, just as I did a moment ago.
Anyway, they're given tasks by Big Mac to set things up while he finishes preparations for the picnic (he's gifting Sugar Belle a picnic table that matches the design of the shelves he made her way back when they first met). Discord heads off to plant apples with little clues all around Ponyville (to entice Sugar Belle to meet Big Mac on the hill top). Despite his best efforts, Sugar Belle misses each one. So he gets the idea to make the apples come to life and find her themselves.
Obviously, things go horribly wrong immediately, and the apples he's turned into automatons to go find their hiding spots on their own, have now rebelled and are yelling the clues at every pony who passes by. It is hilarious.
Meanwhile, Spike's trying to get the food ready but Mrs. Cake is already working on another order, 21 pastries with little slips of paper in each one. She won't say who her customer is, but Spike says he can help, and decides to dragon breath all 21 slips of paper into the pies, only for them all to explode with green fire. Whoops.
Meanwhile, Discord is fed up with the apples not doing their job and zaps them back to Sweet Apple Acres.
A few moments later, everypony runs outside to see a wave of ponies screaming and running away from the edge of town, along with the Apple family, because a giant apple creature has appeared. We cut to the CMC telling their part of the story.
See, from their perspective, they've been helping Sugar Belle with her plans. Yeah, we all know where this is going. Anwyay, they're writing out the little slips of paper to put in the pies that Mrs. Cake is baking for Sugar Belle's surprise to Big Mac.
See? We know.
They get finished, and the CMC promise to make things right from when they messed up the meeting of the two the first time they met. Of course they get the idea to help. Yeah, this is going to go terribly.
They head off to find Big Mac.
After disturbing half the town with their calls for Big Mac, they end up heading back to the farm to wait on Big Mac. Meanwhile, the self-aware apples are starting to merge.
We see Big Mac has finished the table, and the CMC shows up and asks Granny Smith if she's seen Big Mac. By the way, there's a great little Star Trek reference here. It is awesome.
Cut back to our meeting between the characters (Big Mac, Sugar Belle, Spike, Discord, the CMC, Granny) and behind them? A giant apple monstrosity looking for Sugar Belle.
The apple monster then growls out the message. The surprise is ruined.
Sugar Belle and Big Mac realize they've both been trying to propose to each other. Discord, Mrs. Cake, Spike andthe CMC start to argue. They turn to apologize, but Big Mac and Sugar Belle are gone!
Granny finishes her Star Trek reference (seriously, it's great).
We cut to Big Mac and Sugar Belle standing in front of the old heart apple tree where Big Mac apologizes for messing things up. Sugar Belle, of course, doesn't care. She loved everything Big Mac had done, and points out to him that in the grand scheme of things, they have it easier than Big Mac's parents did. She tells him they belonged together, and so do we. Big Mac agrees.
They propose at the same time, and I totally didn't cry here. I mean, nope. No crying. Eenope.
They look up and see the other ponies had showed up to make amends. It had all worked out in the end.
WAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! Big Mac and Sugar Belle are so cute together, and we see them get married! I love it so much!
Happy Apples! Happy Marriage! This one gets an A+!
