To the Phillies for Carlos Santana (guitarist extraordinaire) & J.P Crawford (shortstop). The Phillies also get relievers Juan Nicasio & James Pazos.

I don't know what their bank account looks like, but $140M isn't that much.

The Cardinals have traded for Paul Goldschmidt giving up 3 players and a draft pick.

The Cubs better get their shit happenin'. Milwaukee isn't a flash in the pan like in years past, and now the Cards are making some moves.

Oh, wonderful. He's been a Cubs killer his entire career. So nice to have him in the division.

That return is something, seems like they just wanted some warm bodies back.

Anyone going to be surprised when he reups with the Cards?

It definitely reads like a light return on paper. Weaver’s a solid 3 / 4 pitcher who has a few durability questions, but decent MLB experience, and the Cardinals have like four or five guys who project nearly identically to him on the farm. Kelly was Yadi’s heir apparent, good game calling and defense, with a questionable bat. Andrew Young feels like a lotto ticket.

Weaver has 5 years of control left, Kelly has 6 years. The bullshit sandwich pick (that the Cardinals get every year for being a "small market") is kind of irrelevant as the Cards will get one if he leaves (assuming they make him a QO).

Theo came out right at the start of the offseason and, citing the salary cap--I mean, the luxury tax--basically said the team was only spending money on its arb-eligible players and maybe a backup catcher and retooling the bullpen a bit; essentially, they are not going to be players in trades or free agency.

Eovaldi re-signs with Boston. Four years, $68 million.

Awesome news for the Red Sox, Eovaldi was really clutch for them. I honestly thought he'd get a bigger deal elsewhere after his postseason performance.

Tampa Bay's payroll stands to be about $38 million in 2019, as of right now...

Oof. Must be rough owning a team in the small market of Tampa Bay.

I think the thing with Eovaldi is that he's never been really good outside of being balls-out in this past postseason.

Not surprising. This is actually fairly common in Venezuela; the country is ... not in a good place right now.

Nah. Saves are a bullshit stat, same with pitcher wins and RBI.

I agree saves are bullshit but that's not the only thing Lee Smith was good for. A 3.03 career ERA through nearly 1300 innings is nothing to sneeze at.

If only he could have learned to get on base.
