Oh, right. I see what you meant. I thought you meant there was a second version of the Tommy John surgery. In my defense, I was running on very little sleep yesterday. And today.

I had the same thought at first. I googled "Tommy John #2" and got a lot of hits for men's underwear (though they look comfortable, so maybe a good thing).

I'm glad my sleep-deprived self wasn't the only one confused!

Mets reportedly will call up their #2 prospect, Brett Baty. He'll join the team in Atlanta.

So I guess if the Mets and Braves get into a bench clearing brawl he will be officially known as Warrin' Baty.

There would have been a brawl if Alvarez had hit Acuña. I would have driven to Atlanta to participate.

His start on Monday was the first time he had pitched on standard four days' rest the entire season, and the Phillies are being careful with his arm since he's had periodic weakness since Tommy John surgery ended his 2020 season. Not really sure what's funny about it.

The Angels-Mariners game on YouTube is so quiet that you can hear one guy in the stands heckling everyone.

That pun wasn't funny when you made it about Baty getting into a bench-clearing brawl, it isn't any funnier when you make it about hitting a home run.

In other news, Willson Contreras got into it with some Nationals fans the day and whatever they said--apparently about his family--was bad enough to get them banned from the park for five years.

In other other news, Joey Votto announced he's having season-ending shoulder surgery. Sucks for him, but I guess that means he's coming back next season for sure.

In other, other, other news, the Braves have signed Michael Harris II to an eight-year, $72 million extension that buys out all his pre-arb and arb years as well as his first few years of free agency. So, Harris turned 250 plate appearances into life-changing money. God damn, Anthopoulos moves fast. Current Braves contracts:

    - Austin Riley, through 2032
    - Matt Olson, 2030
    - Michael Harris II, 2030
    - Ronald Acuña Jr., 2028
    - Vaughn Grissom, 2028
    - Ozzie Albies, 2027
    - Spencer Strider, 2027
    - William Contreras, 2027
    - Kyle Wright, 2026
    - Max Fried, 2024

I imagine Fried is next for a deal unless he wants to bet on himself and hit free agency at age 31.

That's a great feeling. First at-bat and with his family in attendance. :D

It is August 19, and Shohei Ohtani leads his team in batting average, HR, RBI, runs, hits, triples, total bases, wins, ERA, strikeouts, and WHIP.

    That's a generational feat.
