Dempster is fine when he's not doing his godawful Harry Caray impression, which is actually a horrible impression of Will Ferrell doing a horrible impression of Harry Caray.

    FUCK JOE MORGAN.

If one didn't know better, one might have said Harry Caray was doing a godawful impression of say, a fat drunk guy. But I'm glad I got to watch him for pretty much his entire Cubs run. Those teams were certainly not that entertaining.

Reds pitcher Hunter Greene pulled after 7.1 innings of no-hit (but lots of walks) ball. Two runners on base, so he could end up with the loss.

Walk, fielder's choice (run scores), pop out. Pirates close out the game in the top of the ninth, Reds get a combined no-hitter and lose. Sixth time that's happened.

Yeah, I was going to say. Not the first losing no-hitter. Craziness each time!

Elias Sports Bureau actually changed the rules / scorekeeping a while back, I think in the early '90s, so it doesn't actually get recorded as a no-hitter.

At least according to Steve Stone, Caray never drank before or during a broadcast. He'd go out and get hammered afterwards, for sure, which is one of the reasons he had the heart attack that killed him, but he was sober as a judge during games. I think his speech patterns during Cubs games were more due to the fact that he was 68 when he took the Cubs job (people forget this), he had had a stroke, and a lifetime of drinking heavily had taken its toll on his brain already.

I saw that in a notification from the MLB app. So dumb. It was a complete game. That's what should matter not whether it was nine innings or not.

7-inning no-hitters don't count either even though the MLB made it a 7-inning game. See Madison Bumgarner.

Asinine not to count those as no hitters, don't allow any hits, game ends, it's a no hitter.

Ain't Life and baseball a bee-atch!! I'm a life long Red's fan and that's the way the cookie crumbles...at times.

One little miscue, too many walks and everything goes to Hell. Nope, not a no-hitter.

If no one got a hit, how can it be anything else?

Wasn't there an infielder's choice (aka: a force out)? Technically the guy got to first on a ball hit into play, even though it wasn't a hit. Is that the technicality?

I’ve never seen a force out cancel out a no-hitter.

IDK. The section in the rulebook on no-hiitters is probably 50 pages long.

If it was considered a hit, wouldn’t the scorekeeper score it as such?

Not nine full innings, which is the standard since Cy Young.

Yep, the espn story says "By Major League Baseball record-keeping rules, Cincinnati's accomplishment isn't an official no-hitter because its pitchers didn't go at least nine innings."

It was a home game for the Pierats, so once they scored in the bottom of the 8th and the Reds didn't score in the top of the ninth, the game was over. Reds pitchers only went 8 innings.

Yeah, I’ve found of late that I care very little what the official line is in any of these things. The pitchers completed the game, they can’t control the offense or schedule, it should be a no-hitter.

    Still funny though.

Giving up no hits and losing.

    That's gotta hurt!
