Isn't an inconsistent strike zone one of the charms of baseball?

 

When it goes from an occasional bad call to being a running topic that can affect the outcomes of games on a regular basis, it needs to be looked at.

It's probably due to the advent of HD TV, the on-screen strike zone and us as viewers being able to really see the madness, that has us up in arms the way we are.

Admittedly, I would be more accepting of umpires' mistakes if so many of them weren't attention seekers trying to make the game about them instead of two teams. Every fanbase knows who Joe West, Angel Hernandez, CB Bucknor, Laz Diaz, Eric Cooper, Dan Iossogna, and Hunter Wendelstadt are because they have all inserted themselves into the game at one time or another. People still talk about the time that Hernandez stared down Steve McMichael.

 

I've gotta dig out a book I have called The Pitcher. I could've sworn the mound was moved around later than that, but it's been a long time since I actually read the book.

Yeah, I was pretty sure the height of it has been changed a few times too.

Red Sox owner John Henry wants to change the name of Yawkey Way to something not named after a gigantic racist.

 

He wants to do this now? While I agree that all symbols of racism, bigotry and intolerance need to be done away with, I'm a little perplexed as to why this is suddenly an issue. Is Henry really outraged because Yawkey was a racist, or is he outraged because people are angry about the events in Charlottesville? I find this sort of behavior somewhat disengenuous.

 

While I get what you're saying, shouldn't it be enough that he wants to change it now?

 

Probably related to union kickbacks from when they built of that monstrosity. Or it's where Jimmy Hoffa really is.

Could they get around the ruling by putting a tarp over it?

These guys are pathetic. Rallying around Angel Hernandez makes them look even worse than they already do.
