Agreed. The A's are in this mess because Beane has spent every waking moment since the second half of 2014 gutting the roster while not replenishing the farm system.

Doing some back-of-the-envelope math here ... the Giants could theoretically run the table and still be mathematically eliminated from the postseason by Labor Day.

Always liked him, 93 Phillies and 97 Marlins were two teams young Krono enjoyed rooting for.

Damn, I saw that news last night. He was pretty young, too. :(

Any word on the cause of death?

Ah, I did remember correctly. I thought it was cancer (although I didn't remember that it was brain related), but I didn't want to speculate.

    Damn. It's a bad week already. :(

The A's traded away Yonder Alonso. Thanks for being an All-Star, we traded you for Boog Powell.

    Ugh.

I don't quite get the A's. It's a perpetual cycle of trading the talent for future prospects, who get traded for prospects, they are always building for later without ever really having it come. At some point, don't you have to hit on some of those prospects and start to build something?

Guess they're making enough money doing it this way, but kinda seems clear that they don't really ever plan to compete, just delay. And for the most part, free agents know it and stay away, unless they sign and hope to be traded to a real team at the deadline. Just going nowhere.

One of the truest and most genuine fan bases in the country. They latch on to the smallest stuff and create rituals, songs, and signs for the most mediocre of players.
But they play in the worst possible conditions, in a HORRIBLE NO GOOD AWFUL stadium and until recently had owners very, very willing to cash their revenue sharing checks and stiff the team.
They also have the Giants pissing on any attempt to move to an area that will support them financially and let them sign this talent instead of sending it to the 6-8 big money teams.

The A's thrived when Beane and Co. were ahead of the curve with analytics, metrics, etc. Now that all the big money teams are doing the exact same thing, there are very few value - added players to be found. So they lose. And lose again. Or they build up a stable of prospects, trade them all for that one shot at a WS victory and then lose. And lose again.

Per wikipedia, no. Just the same last name, and Boog is a nickname apparently.

The A's might have been better off trading for the Boog Powell.

Javy Baez hit an in the park home run at San Francisco. Goes to show if you don't gawk at your deep hit, you can stretch it out to be the same hit if it doesn't go over the wall.

If Contreras was a little faster, he could pull it off too. Those two guys are set on maximum speed all the time.

Just an FYI, Disney is now the majority owner of BAM Tech (formerly MLBAM), so don't be surprised to see changes in the MLB.tv pricing structure next season.

I would expect an increase in pricing and a further crackdown on VPNs (which already are mostly useless; the moment they detect one it's an automatic ban) and IP spoofers. Probably a crackdown on the account-sharing provision, too.
