Missing Not In Action But In Scene

STARTREK11

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I definitely remember a scene which subsequently has vanished from the films.

The scene stars Kirk,MCcoy,Spock and the Enterprise MAY be about to leave Spacedock.

The words MAY have been uttered to Saavik

Someone,possibly Kirk/MCcoy,on the bridge,utters these words:-

"I dont believe these kids can steer"....said in a wry manner.

Anyone else remember this scene and why it has vanished since and which film it is from st2 or 3?

Why has the scene vanished completely in every print shown?

I saw the film on TV.

That sounds Like ST2, Sulu piloting the Spacedock Shuttle with Bones/Kirk also on board, en route to Enterprise for first time. (Spock in the torpedo bay w/ Saavik, awaiting the Dr. & Adm.). The "I don't think these kids can steer line" I believe was to Sulu and prefaced by something to the effect of "I for one am glad to have you back at the helm."

I know for a fact that the line is on the VHS & DVD versions I have, but I don't recall off the top of my head if these are Director's Cuts or Special/Collector's editions or anything like that.

If the line has disappeared from Televised versions it's possibile it's one of those filler scenes that had to be cut to make room for some commercial for Zoloft or Ambien or Damnitol or Perscribomax or some other Medication.

Beat me to it. It's in every print of TWoK, so far as I know. It's around here that TV stations put their first commerical break, just after the Ceti Eel scene (usually treated to the editor's scissors). So maybe you came back a second or so late.

What I am saying is the scene has vanished and cannot be seen again if I watch ST2.I am sure the scene was on the bridge of the Enterprise and referred to the cadets on board, maybe Saavik.

What do you mean "vanished?" How are you watching the movie? I know that the TV edit included the line. Without checking, I'm not sure if the Director's Edition DVD included it or not, but my guess is that it did.

The scene with the quoted line does not occur on the Bridge, but rather as the command staff is taking the shuttle to the Enterprise, as stated above.

The line is, without question, still in the film and not on the bridge. It is in the travel pod spoken to Sulu, and anyone that is within earshot (which is only McCoy and Uhura.) I have never seen a televised version of the film that didn't have the line in it, but I can't speak for your experiences.

The only wry thing I can think of on the bridge during departure are Kirk and McCoy's reactions when they learn Saavik is commanding the ship out of drydock. That and McCoy asking Kirk if he wants a tranquilizer.

That is when I remember him saying it.

Well, for lack of a better way of putting it, you remember incorrectly, at least according to every version of the movie I've seen.

Kirk has enough class not to say "I don't think these kids can steer" in front of the kids in question.

If these kids can't steer, they won't need to be told. They'll figure it out themselves when they hit the drydock wall.

And there's a time and a place to criticize the students. Mocking them in front of their instructors isn't it.
