Missed photo opportunities

An owl came an sat by my kitchen window one morning... I was so shocked I thought I was seeing things, and didn't even think of getting my camera... an owl in the middle of the concrete jungle, really? I saw a double rainbow in the Swiss alps - there was a storm coming though, and there was no time to stop.

Loads and loads of missed opportunities but those were the first to come to mind.

During my paternal grandfather's long military career, he was stationed in Borneo. He once saw an interesting bird in the jungle, and when he described it to a local expert he was told it sounded like an undescribed species. He's always said he wished he had a camera; he might have ended up adding a new species to the lists. He still keeps an ear open to new discoveries in the region.

I recently saw a large-winged hawk on the fence between my yard and the neighbors. My camera was downstairs. I'll keep my eyes open next year in case he returns.

When I was in my teens, I came across some cougar tracks on my uncle's property. Didn't have a camera or a chance to later cast them. Granted, this isn't some lost or missing species. But at the time, the official view was that there were no longer any cougars in Louisiana. That didn't change until some scat was found a couple years later about 10 miles from my uncle's property. Then some hunter's game cameras starting getting pictures up in Central Louisiana. I could have had the first hard evidence.
