Hi all, it's time to vote for your favourite signs of spring avatars! We have six entries this time around, so you can vote for two, just not your own, please. The poll will be open for five days. Here are your entries! Marynator Kai "the spy" rhubarbodendron tharpdevenport RJDiogenes Avro Arrow Good luck!
I did kinda expect to see someone enter a robin... I always thought of them as one of the quintessential signs of spring. But since no one did, and I just happened to see this one on the fence today, I snapped a pic to share with you as an alternate! (Sorry about the iffy image quality...) Also, @tharpdevenport , I wasn't entirely sure about yours, so if I've misidentified it, let me know, and I can update the poll option!
I came out of hibernation long enough to vote for Marynator and Kai. Very nice. I got some good bird pics at my Mother's house on Mother's Day, but not in time for the contest (even if I had thought of it). A couple of samples: They were attracted by the new bird feeder.
Avro, I think for most people Robins are a sign of winter. They are so often printed on Christmas cards plus they are the only birds that sing in winter. I always enjoy hearing their songs in December/January when I'm bicycling to work at 6 am
Oh really? Over here robins are totally all about spring, they disappear for winter, and it's sort of a little thing where you know it's spring when the robins are back singing. So interesting how things are different around our world! Thank you so very kindly everyone for your pictures! I just love @rhubarbodendron's beetle, it's so hard to just pick two, I wish I could vote for them all.
I've sprung into action with my vote. My entry is just simply pretty flowers. It's what happens during Spring. May flowers.
That's really interesting, I had no idea! As @Marynator mentioned, robins seem to be more associated with spring around here. I think the main birds we tend to see on Christmas cards are doves (representing peace) and cardinals.
^^ it's been decades I last saw a cardinal Birds get less and less in Bavaria because all the insects get poisoned (by farmers using herbcides and insecticides). In the last 30 years the number of insects decreades by 76% (mark: by, not to 76%!) It's a catastrophy and hardly anyone takes notice. In another decade the consequences for the whole ecosystem will be horrible.
Oh dear that's just terribly awful! Those poor little bugs. I mostly get finches at my bird feeder, they're so cute but not very colorful. I do get one family of cardinals and they'll visit even in winter, and also there's one blue jay who lives nearby and visits me sometimes. I ever so wish I had colorful little visitors too like @RJDiogenes has in his photos!
The votes are in, and the winner in our Signs of Spring avatar contest is... Marynator! Congratulations, @Marynator ! The next contest is all yours! And a big thank you to everyone who entered and/or voted!
Oh my thank you so kindly everyone for voting, I can't believe I actually won! Oh dear I'm going to have to read other threads and figure out what to do, lol, I'll try to get my contest up today!
