Mirror's Edge discussion thread

Well Mirror's Edge is out today.

This is one of those games that is on my "Maybe" list.
With so much to play right now it should be on my "Later" list but I guess it's just the gamer in me that has me curious, especially since E.A. did such a great job with Dead Space.

Anyone have it yet?
Any good?

Played the demo - it's a nice change to have a free running game that's 1st-person as it changes the dynamics o judging jumps. Having said that, it's very...

It doesn't quite grab me, and there's nothing I can really put my finger on, beyond that it feels really like the Matrix training scenes done quite well as a next-gen videogame... but still a decade too late.

Funnily enough, because I'd been playing Assassin's Creed lately, and then this demo, I had this weird dream last night where I was playing a game with Mirror's Edge gameplay - i.e. first person free running - but with AC's combat moves, and it was a Batman game, so you could leap across the rooftops as the Batman, then drop down onto groups of thugs and take them out with kicks, punches or Batarangs (hold X and press Y to use one Batarang like a blade or baton in melee range, or to swing up to three of them out on lines at longer range...)

If anyone in the modding community actually does this, I want a credit and a free copy...

Yeah, I just saw that Ars review - I can completely buy their criticisms, based on the demo.

The game is fun and exhilarating when you're at full run, but it's tough to see how the game could continuously deliver something new. Spending 6 hours running on identical looking rooftops doesn't seem worth $60 to me ...

While I do really enjoy reading Ars, I find myself disagreeing with their reviews fairly often, so I'm not really put out by it.

From some of the other reviews, I'm not worried about all the levels looking identical, as there's definitely some variety in there (they're not even all rooftops). What it really comes down to, I guess, is if you find the idea of doing the time trials appealing. If you do, you're going to get way more then 6 hours out of it. If not, then you won't. So I guess that should be a factor to keep in mind.

Personally, I'm still really looking forward to it, but won't be able to pick it up this month anyway as I'm crazy busy (and not just with other games this time :p). Assuming I don't just wait until the PC version in January.

A batman game like AC would be freaking awesome. Probably give the movements a little more weight to increase his presence, but jumping from rooftops chasing badguys would be sweet.

Just grabbed it along with the free bag they were giving out. It'll probably be shrinkwrapped for a while though.
